Post subject:  Bars With Their Own Systems?

There are two clubs in my area that I would like to book my system into, but they have purchased their own karaoke systems.  The one doesn’t use a KJ, if you go in and want to sing, you have to wait until the bartender has a minute to go over and cue the song up for you.  The other one hires KJ’s to come in and work the system.  Neither one has a good sound system or a good selection of music.  Any ideas of what I might be able to do, to get these bars to see the merits of hiring a show like mine with a good sound system and an abundant selection of music?

I tried to help a KJ get a job where there was an in house system.  The guy was looking for a KJ to plug into his amp and speakers.  Well what he had and what they had was a totally different ballgame.    They didn't get the job.  They, as i would wanted to use their entire system.    The bar owner got someone else that wasn't nearly as good.

Maybe it had to do with the bar owners feelings being hurt because we refused to hook up to his crap. :O

You would have a better chance swimming across the Pacific Ocean.

He's already showing you he's too cheap to hire a real KJ.    He doesn't care about the sound or the selection.  Karaoke to him is just something to make some extra money with.

If he had a good KJ and realized the full money potential that a good KJ could bring in, he wouldn't be so stupid.

He won't change his thinking.    I feel you will be wasting your time.   I wouldn't even consider it for myself.

He has his opinion formulated already.  He thinks it's doing as good as can be or he has had some very bad KJs before that couldn't build a karaoke night.

I too had lots of ideas when i first started on how i could do this place and that place and had it all figured out in MY mind how it would go.   Well trust me, he will only half listen to you, if you walked in wearing a bikini.    His mind is made up and he has (in his mind) made a big investment already in karaoke.  Even though he has no clue.

I doubt you could convince them.......good luck, but personally, I wouldn't waste my time....they evidently think they can do what we do, and do it for much less....they don't understand karaoke from your discription....

Invite them to one of your shows. Or bring the show to them with an audition if you're really wanting the room. Twist the arms of two or three good singers to come with you.

But I wouldn't do an audition without seeing some hope of scoring a gig from the owner or manager first. If they're aloof about it drop it and move on. It sounds like you've been around enough BlueRose to get into someone's head in the first five minutes of a conversation.

I have been going thru this ordeal for almost a year now.  The one place I've been playing in, the owner has been SLOWLY remodeling the place, I stress that.  I've been hearing since Day #1, "when I get my system in you'll just have to plug and play, for $75 or less mind you!"  My response since day #1, ummmm....I don't think so.  I have my own equipment that is FAR superior to whatever you could possibly be thinking of putting in here.  I may supply a host, but it will not be me, unless for some strange reason I have NOTHING else to do...which I don't see happening.  He's wanted a "house" dj, ever since this whole thing started...he's going to get one alright....and his business will die.  Not wanting to come off irrogant, but he don't realize the differences between them and me.  I've given plenty of breaks to him, he'll find out and not understand why people won't come in for 'crap' sound.  Now if I was just starting out and had no equipemnt...then yeah a house system/house kj job would be great.  Now, I have no desire....on to the next thing!  Best of luck to you!  MrD
