30 mill seems to be a universal figure. :O

Well it goes to show you that they are VERY serious about the infractions.   Will it trickle down to us???

And as i said before...they are going to eliminate all of the karaoke selling sites.    One by one.  Until they all get scared and quit.     No distributors means no more karaoke music.   Unless you can get them directly and very strictly from the manufacturers.

Pretty soon all of the existing karaoke shows will be oldie shows... meaning using what you have right now.   Without any available music to update your collection.

That time could soon be at hand.

Highly doubtful, they are going after the sites that are creating without proper licensing.

Won't affect my show too much, very little new music gets sung or requested.

If that's the destination of karaoke, then so be it, it was a good run.  I'll move back into other forms of entertainment if need be.

Karaoke will not end just buy your discs from another country, in England the laws are more relaxed for disc production.

With a bit of investigation one of the plaintifs is Dayspring Music, LLC'

link

It looks like they publish for Warner Chappel Music which  is a subdivision of Warner Brothers. This looks like a battle of publishing rights. It has nothing to do with producing cd's or karaoke.

Also if you go to the top and use copyright for the search word you will a bunch of copyright & Tort-Property  Damage rights but very few music lawsuits.

Exactly what do you think the "Copyright" part of the lawsuit partains to?     Jelly beans?   It's all music related.

All the karaoke sites that sell us music could be selling songs that are being questioned.    So that would make them part of it.   Ignorance is no excuse.    They might try to play dumb, but it won't fly.

How do you stop drug dealers?   Cut of the dope supply line.    Our dope is karaoke music.    Karaoke sites are the supply line from the illegal manufacturers.

But the main focus of the goverment (FEDS) is to stop the supply line.     Regardless of it's actual effectiveness.   Don't get nit picky.

It isn't about stopping the supply line.  Again it's copyright infringments & improper licensing of their demo streams.  Here is the actual case.

www.lonmanproductions.com/SongFactoryComplaint.pdf

Song Factory - didn't know is also Music Maestro, Legends (now) and ProBurn!  So many of the custom discs people have bought from there may have been illegally created!

Seems like they are referring to 323 songs (if my memory serves me - I just read the entire 28 pages....) - these are not listed in the complaint. Wonder what they are.

I believe (was talking to an attorney friend of mine) that the 323 songs are in reference partly to the online streaming of the 30 preview clips.

But the out come has me worried.  Disc sellers like Ace and the rest have no way of knowing, of all the thousands of songs they sell which ones are or are not legal.  And just how long would it take for them to verify each one.  So to cover their a$$ they just stop selling, period.   No music no lawsiut.   Sounds simple and very logical to me.
