They stopped supporting 98 a while back so they can pull the plug on "their" baby anytime they want.  You and i will like it or not.   You will be at their mercy.    You would think that the other software companies would be all over Microsoft and tell them we ain't making any software to work on Vista.  Now fix it or stay with XP.

If everyone were to abandon Vista and switch to Apple or something else they would pretty much have to stay with XP or go broke.     It's says that the XP computers are still at about 69%.  If it stays at that level and Vista can't get a bigger foot hold, Gates will either screw everyone and say we just pulled the plug on XP or they will get with the program.     How much do you trust GATES?    He's the richest man in the world.  Do you think he can be hurt by us peons? LMAO  LMAO

Even if the entire world stopped using Microsoft, he wouldn't even notice the company went out of business.

Since Gates retired he is not the one making these decisions. He and Melinda are just out giving away money with their foundation these days.   I think if he was still there he would not be doing this. I could be very wrong, but (there is always a big but somewhere LOL) it just doesn't seem like they have let XP age enough and they have not let all the other companies get up to speed with VISTA.

Apple is a good choice, yet still too pricy for me..

I just heard of an Apple "Clone" for sale..

Some companies are selling systems loaded with Linux.. Might be the way to go..
