Now I've been avoiding "Paradise By..." for a year and a half. When I was on discs I would just say that the disc was busted when anyone put it up in rotation. And I pulled it from the last book.

Now I've got a computer. And a couple of weeks ago I had a couple plead with me saying that they knew it had to be in there. And so I let them sing it.

Same thing as before. A total room killer.

I was kicking myself for almost 10 minutes saying what was I thinking?!?!? I had this one under control!!! One of the regulars who knows my secret came up to me and just said "Oh no...."

But it's out of the bag.

I've got two versions. Supercore is the longest at 8:35. Legends is 7:50.

Is there any that's shorter than that? And what are you guys doing about it when it comes up?

Sound quality is not an issue here. I just want this root canal of a song over as fast as possible.

I'm lucky because I never get "American Pie". And the guys know that "Master Of Puppets" is only allowed after 1am. I may do the same to "Paradise..." but I still want it as short as I can get it.

I understand Zoom has a version that they cut out the entire mid section of the play by play & do you love me part - which is actually an intrical part of the song IMO.

Thanks Lonnie. I know that the song should run it's course. But I'm going to give it a try.

If "Paradise" went over at all in my room, or if any regular just had to sing it, I'd put personal feelings about it aside. For example,  I've had "Picture" come up a lot more than it used to lately, and although there are quite a few who get up and do other things, there have been quite a few who stick around and mouth the words. So I don't shudder anymore if I see it.

It helps that it's only half the length of "Paradise".

You need to somehow combine the first few minutes of the song with the last minute of Deadman's Curve.  Can you just see the karaoke singers singing the song, and then all of a sudden they see these lyrics:

"Well, the last thing I remember, Doc, I started to swerve
And then I saw the Jag slide into the curve
I know I'll never forget that horrible sight
I found out for myself that everyone was right:

Won't come back from Deadman's Curve!"

Then you pull out your Oooga horn and honk it a few times! LOL

I made the mistake of singing "American Pie" once...

You do know that files can easily get corrupted/damaged on a computer, don't you?

Lonnie, I believe that all Zoom cut was the Naration part of the song. Also, Sunfly did the same thing. I guess the UK people don't care for the monologue part of the song.

Just delete it from the hard drive and the problem is over.  I did a long time ago.  I have only heard one couple in 15 years sing the song and sound good.  It's 8:38 too long.   I don't have it anymore and i had 3-4 versions.      And years ago i even did the narration part because nobody else could.

If they ask again, tell them you had too many complaints about it.

God I hate that song...and American Pie...people always want to do those songs on the nights I have 20+ singers. I just tell them to come in early some night and then they can steal 10 minutes from no-one...pick another song please.

I removed the files from the computer and re-scanned. They aren't in the book (War Pigs, PBTDL, American Pie). I let them come over and watch me search -- bupkis. For all intents and purposes they are gone, and the only way they are coming back is re-ripping the disk. And I'm not doing that. 8-)

If it's done by you guys than I will too. I'll just severely limit when it can be sung. And "American Pie" which is bound to come up sometime. I've just been lucky so far.

OK....I have a little different view of the song, seeing as it is one of my 'signature' songs. Knowing this, I get many ladies asking to sing it with me, and/or couples and they always ask me to help. That allows me to prevent it from being painful. I also do the baseball part myself.

I have found I like the All-Hits version best, but for time and simplicity, try the DK- it has the baseball part pre-recorded.

All long songs can get tiresome, but at least PBTDBL has tempo and music changes in it.

Try The Wreck of the Edmund Fritzgerald....
