Okay so I want to start a karaoke topic about possitive thinking. Now dont get all uptight on me, its just a good practice to be in especially these days. Can you give 3 positive comments on the last karaoke show you visited? Base this one any show that is not yours, that you have been to recently or in the past that you can point out things that you liked. There may have been bad things, but lets not mention the bad. Remember possitive  The last show I went to: Wed night show, for a mid week show I was impressed. I had to travel pretty far over an hour to go, but it was well worth it! 1. The host was so nice and helpful especially when he commented that he had not seen me before and wanted to help me find songs to sing. 2. The sound was incredible! The host tuned each person in and used great effects and even some effects I have never been daring enough to try and use let alone correctly. And the music was well balanced with the singer. 3. The bar was full of singers almost an hour 1/2 roataion, and they were all having a great time! All kinds of music sang there! Great selection Okay so maybe thats more than 3 things but you know it makes me really appreciate other people that much more and have a respect for those who give it all they have |

1. The kj was able to put songs in a different key if people needed them. 2. Good selection of songs, and for the most part, people were picking some really good ones! 3. Lots of people at this club and many of them sang. I was there for about 2 hours and only got 2 songs in, but that's ok because there were lots of people. |

Hon I realize your frustration from the negatives posters here. I cannot answer your question directly for I dont go to other gigs. One time I had the opportunity to attend a weekend seminar and heard the top ten motivational speakers in the country. I am going to start giving away trade secrets and try to supply some positive aspects concerning our vocation. Redirect to "new gig" Thanks for the thread. I didnt get to bed until 2 am I was up at 7:30 and still pumped I have been doing karaoke for years but have new ways. :) |

We take the good for granted, usually. And it is not anything to remark on unless it is particularly outstanding. And if you are a host and can take some criticism, hearing what is good generally doesn't help you improve -- hearing what is bad does. Find the grain of truth in criticism, chew it, and swallow it. Many of the good things are basic Karaoke 101. I am not sure that a pro forum should spend time on "the sound was decent". I have been traveling the last two weeks and have visited about 10 different shows in North Carolina, Virginia, New Jersey, and New York. So I will try some. In Virginia at Wanna B's, a 7-day karaoke club, I found lots of good things: 1. 4 Shure wireless mics. Excellent. 2. Well-communicated rules. Interesting one I have never seen elsewhere -- all singers that are going to sing *must* be listed on the slip. No traipsing up as a group for "Love Shack" unless you listed everyone at that time. And it is a turn, so you can't sing the next one by yourself, either. 3. All karaoke, all the time. Great food for us non-drinkers. At a show in NJ: 1. A focus on a genre (country in this case). At 7-day-a-week karaoke club Singers in Syracuse: 1. Bartenders who could really, really, sing! Students at the Syracuse music school. 2. Extremely enthusiastic KJs. 3. Video monitors everywhere. |

Last show I went to (which I had to sneak out to): 1. Great selection- I offered my discs and instead of refusing to play them, asked what versions they were, and searched his system. He had the versions, but told me if he didn't he would have been happy to use mine. 2. Great stage set-up with a full stage and projection TV 3. Encouraging to those that needed help. |

Went to a Monday night show a coupla weeks ago (Hi Joe and Karen) 1. Separate lyrics video screen on a stand for the singer, close to eye-level 2. Nice sound system including sub-woofer. Loudness just right -- slightly below where it would be hard to have a conversation 3. Great venue... bar included darts, pool, decent food menu, and free chicken strips! Dance floor, lots of tables, perfect rotation length 45 min., great singers |
