Post subject:  Pyle Wireless 4-mic system
I was at a show in Buffalo last night, and ran into a Pyle wireless mic system that 1) sounded good, 2) was built like a tank, and 3) had a 4-mic system.

I couldn't get the model number, but I searched on the net and couldn't find any pro audio dealers that stocked Pyle. The mics were very solid, and weighed even more than a Shure SC system.

Is Pyle such an off-brand that you can't find them at real audio dealers? Has anyone seen this 4-mic system?

I noticed some use 9Volt and others use AA Batteries, I would suspect the AA Battery type would be more efficient. In any case here's a link for you.

It appears to be the PDWM5500. It is VHF, and only runs $120-200 depending on where you buy it. I imagine it is too good to be true, but I was fairly impressed at the time, mostly by the solid feel of the mics.

Those are the ones I found after researching a while back. It was really hard to find them as they are discontinued. I ordered on March 31 and still waiting! Many of these online order places a sneaky that way... they list every product they've ever carried... that way it comes up in your search engine. Then "oh, sorry, it's out of stock. Why not buy THIS one instead???"

However, the ones I ordered were the PDWM 5000 not 5500

If I remember correctly, the 5500 has stubby antennas on each Mic for greater range. I don't care about having 300' range and the antennas look tacky.

Thank you again to Murrlyn for the heads-up on rechargeable Lithium 9V batteries (vs. NiMH which won't even last for a whole show)

I sang through them again with a more critical eye and was not as pleased with the sound. But boy are they solid!

I have my wireless setup now that I finally got a Shure, but these felt so solid I had to ask.

I have to agree. I went back and sang there again, and noticed *two*  PDWM5500 boxes by the DJ station. And one of the mics that seemed so solid on Wednesday was cutting out by Saturday.

You get what you pay for, I guess. I will be happy with my Shure, AKG, and Sennheiser mics.

I think you should go back a few more times and give us a Best of Three type

You ALWAYS get what you pay for ..........but sometimes you don't need to PAY so MUCH .

Worked a NEW gig last Thursday and connected 1 wired shure SM58 and my $49 Dual Gem-Sound Wireless.....  Many compliments on the system  sound.
I KNOW they are $49 mics but to some they LOVE THE the fact that they are wireless  :wave:

I did go back three times. 8-) One favorable, mostly based on the weight of the mic and sounding pretty good for a couple of songs. The next two were unfavorable.

I have sang through those Gems. For my voice, which is deep, they are not good in my opinion. I often note that some mics sound fine for tenors and female voices, but don't sound so good for deeper men's voices.

Also, if you constantly have lots of large-hall reverb on the vocals, it doesn't much matter what mic you use. Everyone is going to sound the same anyway.

But if you have a wired SM58 available, I am a happy camper. If people don't care and want to use the wireless, fine. I care, and I would rather use the SM58.

I agree - microphones are a personal choice and some are better suited to YOUR voice than others.  As a singer or entertainer you buy what YOU like and what SOUNDS the best for you.  

As a KJ the SM58 seems a great ALL AROUND PERFORMER and value for the MAJORITY of singers.   The Gems are CHEEEEEP ... that I understand.
They sound BETTER than they cost   :yes:  :yes: .  They don't sound $600 good BUT I think they sound as good as other systems costing $200 ( which is still CHEAP for a dual wirelss set up )

After all the talk about the Shure SM58 on here... I had to get one. (few weeks ago)

After using so many cheap mics at various venues, this feels heavy! No wonder they had to make it drop-proof. It could break a toe!

But it has nice sound  :)   It's picking up my explosions from the letter P unless it's like a foot away from my mouth. Do KJs use an additional layer of foam besides the built-in layers?

You have the gain pretty high, and you are singing directly into the mic like you might a  supercardiod.

Usually, you sing with the mic slightly off center, i.e. closer and 90 degrees, or farther and 45 degrees. Some people point the mic at their chin if they hold it up parallel to the ground. Unless you send the plosive directly into the capsule, it shouldn't pop.

I learned my mic technique from a KJ -- he told me to hold it straight out.
