I have ordered some Nightwish karaoke music from Finland and it is in DVD format. I have a DVD player in my rack but it isn't hooked up currently (don't use it). Need some advice on the best way to integrate this so I can use the DVD. I play karaoke music through MTU Hoster. I think what I need is just a switch, correct? Can someone advise me on this? I can't get the Nightwish on CDG or I would in a second. Second best thing is to play it through the DVD player I already have in the rack. Thanks in advance. K |

Chances are the DVD player doesn't have S-Video out like the Hoster computer. So you will need a switch with multiple input/output combinations. If you are running an RF converter to get the computer signal to the club tv's, you would run both the computer & DVD into the switchbox, then the output of the switch to the RF convertor input. Or to make it REAL simple, get a switchbox with an RF converter built in. http://www.amazon.com/Magnavox-M61151-V ... B00013BKXC This is the one I use & any combo of inputs & outputs can be used - meaning you can use an s-video input on one, an RCA input on the other & either Coax/s-video/RCA or all at the same time for the output. |

Wow, thanks for the info. Hard to find it but I'm not giving up. If you like metal music, this band is incredibly good. K |

Karen. MTU Hoster will play DVD files, you just need to rip it to your computer. I use both CD+G and DVD files using the hoster. You can use Nero or any DVD ripping program, save in to a folder. I forget which format you need to rip to so you may have to experiment with it, I think it was in WMV or MPEG format. Once you have it in the folder, open Hoster and one of the format option is Video. Just click on it and go to the folder, open the file and it will play the video. Usually DVD will have the lyric embedded on the video so that should show up. You may have to expand and adjust the video to the singer's screen. The one thing you can not do with video is to search. I ripped them and named them with artist's name dash song name so I can find them easier. Good luck. |

Thanks Ben - that is great news! Easier than setting up a switching box, though I did order one already. I'll make both available - since the DVD player is in the rack anyway I'll try that first, then rip. k |

Radio shack used to have several different units on display in their stores that would handle the task. Lately, I haven't noticed them in the store See "5-Way" (I own two of these) http://www.radioshack.com/family/index.jsp?categoryId=2032199&sr=1&origkw=converter%20box What I like about this unit compared to the one Lon recommended is that it has 4 stations for input and TWO for output. Also, when you turn on the power to a new device, like you might do temporatily when you turn on the DVD player, the system automatically "jumps" to that station. Please note that the one and only drawback with this unit is that the audio will not work if there is no video LINE connected. |
