I want to purchase the actual internal burner to install in my computer to replace this: Optical Drive--LITE-ON LTR-16102B (16x/10x/40x CD-RW) This CD-RW doesn't burn dvd or CD+g or mp3+g. I want to replace it to back up my file. Any advise would be helpful Thank you!! |

what software are you using for your "backups"?? Many people say the Lite On Drives work just fine.I personally prefer Plextor drives, but you have to be careful of the newer 7xx drives, as they are prohibited from burning. You can usually RIP the tracks, though. |

Most any DVD writer will work nowadays. It does, of course, depend on the software you are using. CD-RW writers like yours, in general, do not work for CDG writing. |

I just checked... Lite-On "LTR-16102B" SANYO CDRW161040 is supported by Goldenhawk's CDRWIN. Go to goldenhawk.com and check out the supported devices tab. If you're just ripping the cdgs to computer ONLY, then also check out audiograbber. |

Are you sure, that burner can't burn CD+G? I have two LiteOn drives and both of them work just fine. |

LiteOn is a brand, and doesn't describe the drive. You need a model number and type. Most LiteOn DVD writers will work with PowerKaraoke and MTU Microstudio. Most LiteOn CD writers will not. Or so I understand. |

This Lite on it (16102B (16x/10x/40x CD-RW) (lately) hasnt been working properly. Heres what's been going on. I purchased a Lifes Good external dvd burner and put it on the computer that has the Lite On It cd rom. Well, on that computer I have windows 2000 professional. When I loaded the cd that come with the Lifes Good dvd burners and try to use the dvd burner, it didnt work on that computer. I dont know why, my guess is that since it is an older computer that may have been the problem. I took it all off and ever since I did that the Lite On It now has been acting up. That is why I was going to replace it. When I put the cd+g cd in, it wont see it everytime, let me explain that. The only way it will see it is if I reboot the computer everytime I load a cd+g or any cd in it. When you go to My Computer and double click it to open any disk, it doesnt see it. But, if I open Windows Media Player, it will play any cd or cd+g (no words show for the cd+g though). In the devise manager, the Lite On It has no (!) by it and says it is working properly. I've been trying to figure this whole cd rom thing out but can't so decided to get rid of the Lite On It and buy something that might work . If you have any clue as to why MY Computer wont see the cd+g when you double click it, please let me know. I use KaraFun as the cd+g player on that computer. I was going to just give up on the Lite On it, but if I can keep it and use it I will. Thank you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gayle |

double clicking on the cdg file will only work if you have karaoke software on your pc that allows you to play directly from the pc. I don't have anything like that installed on my pc. I RIP my files, and then doubleclick either on the .cdg file, or the .mp3 file. |

Hi Knightshow: I have karafun software. This computer has worked for about a year playing cd+g cd in the Lite On It drive until I installed the LG dvd burner. My Computer I am talking about is the My Computer Icon on my desktop. I click on that, then locate the D: drive, which is the Lite on it. This is where it won't show I have a cd disk in the drive. I should have said that before, but didnt |

means I copy the files from the cdg to the hard drive. As for why it's not working now, you might have to reinstall whatever worked before, or de-install what you last installed. Sucks that when you install software, sometimes other software stops working. |

Gayle The above in red leads me to believe it is an ASPI problem/conflict going on. Perhaps some one a little more familiar with ASPI can help out, I can't. When I had that problem I had to get help. |

You can download ASPI drivers for free from Adaptec web site, www.adaptec.com. You have to do a search for it, download and install. As for CD+G drives, way I see it is two ways. First, there are "native" CD+G supported drives. I don't have all the models but I have used in the past Yamaha, Plextor and LG. I understand that some LiteOn works as well but I haven't tried them yet. Also, you can use software like Goldenhawk's to make others who may not "natively" support CD+G but has ability to read and write to the G portion of the data. There are a lot of burners that will not support no matter what software you use. So, my suggestion is that look at the box of the burner and get the natively supported burners. It is the easiest way. Last CD+G drive I bought was LG. I believe it was model GSA-E10L. It is a 16x DVD burner that burns CD as well. It will burn dual layer DVD+R, lightscribe, and most importantly it will read and burn CD+G. I am not saying that this model is the best but it worked for me because it was reasonable at my local Fry's electronics for about $80. That was about a year ago so I assume the price is less than $50 now days. Good luck. |

Lonman: Will this Plextor play cd+g cd that I will be playing in Karafun? I need it to play them because the other cd rom can. Also I was reading on that site and wondered what this means: The drive can write to DVD+R Double Layer and DVD-R Dual Layer discs. This was on a Sony dvd burner and I just wanted to know what they are describing. Thank you so much! |

Thank you ASPI driver is for general access driver for multiple storage devices, including SCSI and CD-ROM type drives. It gets installed to your OS area and doesn't get downloaded to your optical drive. It's a layer that sits between the OS and the hardware device. Just go to Adaptec's site and do a search for ASPI driver and you should be able to find it. |
