Some portable DVD players (the kind with the built-in screen) can play karaoke discs, complete with lyrics!
In my research, I found almost NONE of them list CDG as a format they can play, yet in my brief sampling at the electronics store, I found several cheap models that do in fact work, even though they don't list the capability. Several expensive ones DID NOT work.
Survey / curiosity (I'm not a cat, so no biggie) :)
If you have a portable DVD player, does it play karaoke discs with on-screen lyrics?
The one I got was a Dynex for $79 -- runs about 2 hours on a charge, includes audio and video output
