I'm wanting to get started in doing some shows, and was hoping to get some advice on software..
Got most of the hardware, but was wandering what works the best?
for hosting that is...
it would be cool if it had listing tools as well (to make books, and organize toons).
You here plenty of sweet talk from the companies...
But I thought I'd ask the gurus of the trade for some sound advice before dropin
a couple hundred out....
I'll be using a pc along with ext players.
Thanks..

If you are doing karaoke shows professionally, strongly recommend CompuHost. It costs $180, and it's worth it. It is the best program out there.
I have used all the top karaoke hosting programs, and prefer CompuHost over all others.
It is false economy to try and save a few dollars -- if you are looking for work then CompuHost will most impress your target audience.

((sigh))
It depends on your NEEDS. What works for some, isn't necessary for others.
I PERSONALLY have no need of a rotation software for my "hosting" needs. ALL I require of the PC is to play my music, and put the singer's screen on the TV. JUST like a player with discs. Needs to key up and down, slow the TEMPO up and down...
I track my own rotation with signup slips - others in a similar bent use sign up sheets or whiteboard... whichever you prefer.
Clubdjpro is a fantastic piece of software similar to compuhost and pcdj or pckj with dual players that fade in and out
I also use winamp if I'm just playing cdg files. Karafun works well, too!

Matt
Have I been asleep at the wheel. Where can I find Clubdjpro? How much is it? What does it do, if anything, aside from playing files?

clubdjpro dot com m'man!
http://www.clubdjpro.com/clubdjpro.php
It's a dual player, fade automatically from player a to player b, hot buttons to program for special sound effects or features ( Applause Dammit screen I made is funny), key up and down, tempo adjust, plays videos and many music formats...
I like the pro version. The lite version is one I thought HEAVILY about getting, but I like the extra features the pro version has. I'm thinking about getting their VJRipper... as I have a ton of music dvds I want to rip to mpeg!

Isn't there an issue with the key change in Clubdj Pro? AFAIK you can't exactly change the key, let's say 1.5 keys down because of that slider. On top I remember that if you change the key, the tempo changes, too. Right? I'm not sure, just asking...

I concur. I have tried every program out there and CompuHost beats them all.
