Maybe a "dumb" question - see topic for BLOWN SPEAKERS In addition to the facts there - The one thing that was unusual was : The venue I host Saturdays is at the Marina right on the water..The place is built right over the water and when ever there is a STORM or in Saturdays case a NEW MOON with HIGH TIDE the place FLOODS. Literally the inside of the bar gets 6-8 inches of water in it. This past Satuday was one of those nights - I was setting up as they were mopping up the water on the floor. When the tide goes down the water does also and business is back to normal .......NONE of my equipment was on wet floor but I would imagine that the wiring of this place must get wet ? Although nothing ever shorts out. Can faulty electric current cause speakers to overheat and BLOW ? |

Aboard ship we have had to replace wiring harnesses in compartments that have been flooded with salt water. It will reek havoc and corrode bare connections on terminal boards. Most beach buildings have ceiling wiring and the outlets are usually 4 feet high. Some even employ conduit that is water sealed. Corrosion can put heavy noise and spikes on the line. The spikes or power surges are short in duration and of a high frequency nature Thus they might destroy a horn or diaphragm. It takes DC or a longer duration to heat and short or open the coil in a bass. Heavy thumps with a constant level in either polarity is about the same. usually the speakers are popping. |
