Hello, Im currently using 2 laptops for djing and Karaoke. Im running OTS for djing and Hoster for Karaoke. The laptops have worked well but at times have seemed unstable with multiple programs running. Im looking to purchase a CPU w/ monitor to be able to handle gigs that Im multi tasking without having to worry. Below is what a local company offered to build for $1295.00. Not being the most computer savy does this seem like a good deal and would it be able to run programs without a clitch. thanks

Acer LCD Monitor LAN 10/100/1000 Ethernet connection Diskette reader Keyboard Mouse Mouse Pad Looks good to me, the one I had built is very similar to this & I also run Hoster & OTS Dj as well, couple things I see: I was told that Windows XP cannot utilize anything over 2gb of memory so that may be a waste of money - I don't know, I know I wanted the most memory when I had mine built & the guy asked if I was going to be using Vista, I told him XP at the most. He told me not to bother spending the extra on the other 2 gb - it would be a waste of money as Vista is the only that will utilize more than 2 gb. Also i'd opt for a more pro sound card with balanced 1/4" outputs, that X-Fi I bought & tried is really noisy. I ended up getting an M-Audio Audiophile 192. Very low noise & much fuller sound than any SB card. Just a consideration - but if you are spending that much, may as well put another $50 or whatever it is & get a good soundcard, you have good everything else. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ ... sku=703610 This isn't the only good card, just the one I ended up with. Was able to pick it up at GC for $129. I had to purchase as the computer builder did not have access to it via their supplier. Also it looks as though your cd drive is just a cd drive? Upgrade it to a dvd drive.

Lon, your computer geek is wrong, 32-bit XP is limited to 4Gb maximum. And as I always say, MAX OUT THE MEMORY!!!! Personaly I would put a DVD and a CD drive in the computer. And make sure you find a CD drive with a VERY FAST seek time

I see a diskette reader in that list... if you're storing any of your production files on diskette, this may be where some of your instability is coming from. Diskettes, by their very design, are unreliable -- the read/write head comes in contact with the media, plus the media spins inside the case, rubbing against 2 pads. It just plain wears out over time, especially the often used directory track (it holds the database that points to every file and sector on the disk) Copy those files to the hard drive and just use the disks for backup. Better still, find another method of backing up. External hard drives are pretty cheap these days ($100 ballpark) and backup time is infinitely faster than diskette

Unless you are planning on reading legacy data, you don't want a floppy drive. It consumes power and serves no earthly purpose. Jump drives, CDs, and networks are a much more viable thing to have to communicate data. Also, no gear ever comes with diskette-based drivers.

I'll never throw away the Dos 6.0 boot floppy.
