Hi all
I have asked a few questions on this forum and the replies have been excellent.
This is the situation i am starting a karaoke up with limited funds, i am based in the
UK and already have the laptop and all the discs etc it's just the speakers and mixer
amp i require. now i know a few of you are not fans of mixer amps but i am.
Now some of the recommendations i have received i personally think are a bit too
powerful for my requirements some have mentioned 1200 Watts etc.
I will only be playing very small venues  30-75 people max. As i grow then so can my equipment. i have around $800 to spend on 2 speakers and a mixer amp.
please help with ideas you are the only people i know with the knowledge i need.

thanks

Consider this one. It puts out half the power of its big brother the 808 but performs just as well. This also gives recommended speakers. link

Sometimes you can get one ob Ebay for about 300-400 dollars.

It's not really a matter of the power being too powerful, it's a matter of properly matching your amp to your speakers - the only thing more power will do is make the sound at regular listening levels fuller & cleaner sounding.  Too little power can blow a speaker if you happen to need to get into any kind of volume.  Even in small rooms, there may be times where you will need to push the volume up.  If your amp doesn't have the power needed, then you could find that when you push the volume up, clipping can occur which is the major speaker killer.  I think it was Jamkaraoke that just blew his speakers a couple weeks ago due to a similar scenerio & he plays small rooms as well & needed to turn the volume up one night.
Remember the 1200 watts is PEAK rating not a continuous rating & it's also at the biggest load allowment of 2 ohms which most speakers are 8 ohms - I think you said the speakers you were looking at were 4 ohms (Peavey Pro15?) which require an amp to push 600 watts into 4 ohms.

You are so going the way of Peavey.
There are a number of options open to you.
Half the people in the yuk go peavey.
Its safe... I suppose.

If you didnt give the constraint of those Peavey Pro12 people could make some better suggestions.

Mine? Go for a Yamaha MG124cx mixer and two Behringer B215a active speakers. In the US, that will run you $920.00 or so. It buys you enough power for your target audience, compression and effects on your mixer, and will get you pretty good sound for that amount of money. Add a $80.00 Behringer FBQ1502 to get some equalization, and you have enough to do a very satisfactory show.

Lon, thanx for the education on wattage!

My suggestion, working mostly smaller rooms as will the poster noted, is the Fendor  Passport PD250.  It's a good value and won't take so much of an investment so as to deter you from upgrading when the time calls for it!
