Post subject:  Do you repair your equipment or replace
I've just put my peavey powered mixer (an old 12 channel xr) in the shop.  Fortunately all that it needed was a replacement slider that was worn out.   I love this mixer,  plenty of power and tough, but technology is getting the same power or more out of much lighter mixers.   When you wear out your equipment do you repair or upgrade to newer equipment?

As with most everything else, MrD is old-school.  I try to repair whenever possible.  If I have something I like, I'll trying to get a few more miles out of it......:)

That's a broad question -- It depends on age of equipment and value
I assume your Peavey Mixer to replace would cost you $600-$700. SO for $100 or so It pays to get it repaired. But I wouldn't spend $300 to fix an OLD mixer unless it was just out of warranty and not that old.  In the past I did have my speakers sent out for repair loose wire/connection IT TOOK 3 WEEKS and I ended up buying a replacement (backup) speaker .....before I had more than 2 speakers   LMAO

Majority of time for equipment with some wear and tear ... I REPLACE rather than fix .

I like to at least try to repair something...

By that, I mean repair it so it's going to work - not so that I have no faith in it anymore!

Completely depends on what the equipment is & how bad off it is.  
My speakers I will generally repair, the cabs are good & solid & produce good sound.
I do have a couple compressor/limitors I would definitely repair as they are a couple of the best I have used.
Amps - maybe
Processors - generally not, most are cheap enough for replacement & 'usually' get better with technology - but again, like my compressors, it's all dependent on what they are.
Mixer - again depends on what is wrong with it.
Mics - no, cheap enough to replace, however get a good mic that will last & you won't need to.  In 15 years i've replaced 1 mic.  Replace alot of mic mesh screens.

As far as your mixer, you didn't really describe what the problem was with it & why it needed to be repaired in the first place.

Things like my cables and mic stands I replace because I go to Guitar Center and they exchange them for free with a receipt.

I kind of look at the rest of my equipment like a car when it starts costing more to fix it than replace it, when it is outdated, or when it becomes a burdon to constantly fix it, I replace it. Usually by the time something starts breaking down I'm ready to by new. I love new toys.  :D

I have extras just in case I have an emergency breakdown.
I have a back up mixer amp, mics and a couple players at home.
They aren't the quality of what I have now, but it would get me through in a pinch.

My first consideration in buying anything is the tech support and availibility of schematics. That is why I run JBL & Mackie. Last year I replaced a fader in the Dfx12 Ordered the part from Mackie as a user no problem. I not only repair I modify and update when applicable.

Yeah they are pretty cool there. One time I went in thinking I'd have to buy new because I lost my receipt. The guy who helped me told me not to worry about it and did the exchange anyway.  :oh yeah:
