Andy Summers
Donna Summer
Yeah, I can confuse the two as well, especially since I don't find it terribly difficult to forget Donna Summer. She really was a sore thumb of the Disco genre IMHO.. There was some great dance bands, some decent rhythmic music in the 70's, but her sequenced stuff was HORRIBLE IMHO...
If somebody were to ask, "Kappy, What were the songs you hate the most from the mid 70's ?", I would replay, the (@$%!) sequenced electronic crap sound of the following songs
"Love To Love You Baby" and “Bad Girls” perhaps “Hot Stuff” or maybe “Dim All The Lights" and I REALLY can't stand “On The Radio". I DO NOT LIKE HER MUSIC

I'm bummed that Donna Summer has to resurrect the absolute worst of a genre and period of music that already gets a bad enough rap... Why can't "The Trammps" make a return, but what is this summer going to bring this Summer ? A full plate of Donna Summer, and KC and the Sunshine band ? THe reason many hate disco ? I'd rather have Sister Sledge, Chic, and Musique back... Even The Jimmy Castor bunch ! Ohio Players, BT Xpress, etc... Soul...stuff I can do "THe Bump" too :hi5:
BLECH..
Besides that, I'm fine

On the subject Donna Summer. There were only two songs that I really liked of hers, and those were bad girls and hot stuff. If you know how to get down,I mean really get down ......you know what I mean.Other than those two,I agree with you Vickie......very roboted songs.KC and The Sunshine Band.....UGH!!There were some great ones that got catagorized as Disco, only because their music was dance music. These people were extremely gifted musician, vocalist and performers.Earth wind and fire, kool and the kang, teddy pendergrass, luther vandross, chic to name a very few.In my opinion I think the 70's music was probably the best era, because It was an era that featured a lot different kind of music. Rock (so called) stars wanted to separate themselves from R&B( latin fusion) sound that was responsible for they're very existance. They demonstrated with T-shirts and act like children because they were losing they're fan base to this fusion of R&b and orchestrated productions. There were groups that didn't let this bother them.Groups like the Doobie bros.,america, the eagles, the stones(missing you) etc. They didn't need to be Stroke. They new who they were. That knock on disco came from the so called rock bands and they're fans who frankly couldn't dance worth of sh.t.In my neighborhood it was simply music.Capitalism called it disco.

michael mcdonald is the perfect example Morgan...ok I adored the doobie bros, but look at the solo career he forged in R&B once he embraced it

No Vickie what I'm saying is that the Doobies and the bands I mention continued to play, regardless.See they were not trying to separate. They new the basics of all music that is popular in yesterday (with the exception of standards) and todays music is a product of R&b.They already embraced it when they first pick up a guitar. With the so called Rock Stars it was Jimi hendrix with hendrix it was chuck berry.Mike McDonald and the bands I mentioned, they're first love was R&b.I heard Clint Eastwood on this bravo station studio show interview. He was asked what kind of music do you listen to.He said he didn't listen to any of it because it was to watered down(he actually was more critical than that) and if he did listen,it would be the originators R&b.The reason is a lot musician use a lot of R&b creative sounds and beats and call it something else, but its clearly a product of R&b......all of it.So when he wants to hear music,he puts on his old R&b albums. You know he is a accomplished musican.A lot of folks don't know that ,but he is.Its some of the rocks (so called) stars that refuse to acknowledge and separate......this is why we have so many different music catagories.Rock, hard rock, metal, heavy metal .punk etc.All product of the motherload.....R&b.R&b is a product of the mississippi,st.louis, macon delta,Tennessee blues (ask Elvis) and so on.The blues is a product of old negro gosple songs sang by the slaves.Which is from a simple three cord change type of music.I can go on and on,but my point is that, a lot of yesterday and todays so called rock stars donot recognize. They gave a bad knock on disco for selfis reasons and they're inability to keep up, and as I said before.....they got they're fans involved with t-shirts propaganda material at they're concerts downing disco. Most of they're fan were people just like like them....couldn't keep up and could not dance, so they hated for an excuse. When rock and roll was played back in late 40's and early 50"s,a of lot the so called good citizens had flyers and what not stating"don't play that jungle music".To me what the so called rock bands and they're fans did......was no different. You have some bad music in all catagories.Disco is no different, but a lot of disco was and is great music.

one of my favorite songs is by Donna... "She works Hard For the Money"
Saw her in the audience on the Country Music Television show "Crossroads" with Heart and Wynonna Judd. She looked great and was in great spirits.
