I generally hand in my first slip when I get there, and then have the next slip ready to go and hand it over after I finish singing whatever I'm singing.

Often times i'll get to the show & already have a few slips up, so for the first round, the earlier the better, after that I prefer to bring one when you sing one.

I like the idea of handing in the slip when it's your time to sing.  That prevents what I've seen a few times where walks between the singer and the monitor during the middle of a song to give their song slip to the kj.

Bring one sing one. First one as soon as you feel comfortable enought to approach the Dj for the first time of the night.

LOL about some of the poll choices!

I usually come in a little before they start the karaoke, pick out my first song, then after I sing the first one, I go back to the book and pick out my next one.  Sometimes if I find more than one song I want to do, and can't decide which one to do next, I'll give the kj two (or more) slips and say, "Put these in whatever order you want."

I'm not picky about it. Some people sing one, bring one. Others hand me a stack and are good for the night. Some even occasionally don't know what they are going to sing until literally right before their turn. I can, and will, accomodate them. If they want to change their song after it's turned in, that's also no problem.

Some people are very shy or embarrassed about asking about such things, and are genuinely surprised when I tell them it's not a problem. Maybe they are just used to dealing with certain kinds of rule-oriented KJs

To singers: if someone walks in on a busy night, they can come up to me saying just "put me up" with no specific song yet. I put just their name in rotation, thus holding that slot. It gets them up quicker. They can then take their time getting their tables, drinks, slip boxes...

And I'd bet that many other KJs would do the same.

If a singer brings up more than one slip, even five or more, I have a box with large paper clips right next to the board and clip them all together. So it's OK with me if that's the way the singer wants to do it.

I'll be honest and say that having people bring up multiple slips at once kinda drives me batty, especially if they continue to bring up even more as the night goes on. I have two pretty busy shows and the likelihood of singing more than four or five times a night is slim, so there's no need to bring me TEN slips. It's wasteful.

I don't really complain about it to singers, because well, I want them to come back, but it does drive me nuts. I've asked my regulars before to bring me their next song when they're getting ready to sing, but it falls on deaf ears. Ah, well. They're good to me and come back every week, so it's hard to poo poo that.

I'll take slips anytime, unless I'm actually on-mic. Heck, even then I will take them and just put them atop the console.

I won't action them until during the next song though.

But I'll always smile and say thanks - unless you give me like 6 sings at once - and you will then be asked to possibly put them into priority cos you may not get to sing them all (but I will do my best).

Most of my regulars bring up several at once. It's just to get it out of the way so they can do other things... poker, slots, pool, of just hang out. Their song selection job is done. Someone new may bring up a dozen, but most understand that the most they will get to sing is four or five.

The board is open to the room. All I tell them is to put what they want so sing next on top.

I usually hand one slip in for the first song and then bring the next one up when my rotation turn comes up. Sometimes, if it is slow at the start, I will hand in two slips to begin with. I often write out slips for a number of songs at once so that I get the book-looking over and done with... I just hold onto the slips and hand them in one at a time when going to sing the previous song.

When ever you want to bring me a slip is fine. If they want to get in the rotation as soon as possible I would suggest handing it in as soon as they can.

I like when people hand me a stack of slips for the night. It makes it easier just to put them all in their spot for rotation.
