how do you know they are midi john? do they have .mid as the extension? Chances are they have undergone a change and even though they still sound midi they are no longer midi |

The karaoke machine says midi when it plays them. |

Yes, it has an audio_ts folder with nothing in it, a video_ts folder with vob, ifo, and bup files, and it has NEWTON00.dat, NEWTON10.dat, etc. |

The two folders you note are indicative of the file structure of a standard video DVD (or the almost failed AudioDVD). I don't think the music is being stored as MIDI, as no normal player would play it back. As such, you're not going to be able to extract them |

Like I said, the karaoke machine says it's midi. It only shows "MIDI" when it plays midi songs. Need more evidence? The disc has 10,000 songs at 4 minutes each. Assuming the whole disc (which is 3 GB) is used for music, the average song is encoded at 10.48576 kbps. Take into account space that is used for video, lyrics, and whatnot, and the bit rate is even lower. Such a low bit rate would sound completely horrible if they weren't midi. |

I'm not trying to disprove you, I'm trying to help. Does the DVD play these fines in "any old dvd player" or just a special one for this purpose? Reason I ask - MIDI support is not standard on DVD players. Also, how about you post a listing of what you see when you look through the disks contents, because I still say that VIDEO_TS / AUDIO_TS filesystem shows a standard (commercial) video DVD. |

In Windows Media Player it just plays the videos, no music or lyrics. Of course, the karaoke machine plays them correctly. Here's a listing of the files. ¦ NEWTON00.DAT ¦ NEWTON10.DAT ¦ NEWTON11.DAT ¦ NEWTON12.DAT ¦ NEWTON20.DAT ¦ NEWTON30.DAT ¦ +---VIDEO_TS ¦ VIDEO_TS.IFO ¦ VIDEO_TS.VOB ¦ VIDEO_TS.BUP ¦ VTS_01_0.IFO ¦ VTS_01_1.VOB ¦ VTS_01_2.VOB ¦ VTS_01_3.VOB ¦ VTS_01_0.BUP ¦ +---AUDIO_TS |

You will be able to extract the tracks easy enough. Just google vob conerter. There are plenty of free ones available. But, like has been pointed out. They will not be midi files. They will be movies. |

jerry12x is correct - they can be extracted but they will be either in individual .vob files or .mpg file (both of which are video files) |

you should be able to rename the .dat files to .mpg and they'll play in windows media player. |

All the data is in the .vob files. The .dat files wont do anything. |
