Hi I have come to the realisation that the mixer I am using is really for DJ use, not karaoke. Sure it has a controllable "echo" effect on the mic inputs, but it isn't particularly good. The mic input channels just seem REALLY sensitive. All my other sliders/gains are up quite high, the mic is at about 1/10 of it's possible setting, and the most minor of changes make a huge difference. Also it has no compression. From what I read, this is a "must have" for a KJ mixer. Can someone possibly explain it to me? I hear it would help eliminate a few feedback issues also? Thanks PS. Compression will just help to even out some of the louder signals by reducing the volume a bit. Think of it as keeping your hand on the fader of the mixer & when someone gets loud, you turn the fader down & then back up when they get softer again. Compressor will do this automatically. That little mixer should be fine, although are you only going to use 2 mics? It only had 2 real mic channels with the built in compression or do you or plan to run more at some point, may want to take that into consideration. Also knobs aren't as easily adjustable as faders (sliders) IMO. |

I currently run 2 wireless mics which come into their receiver with independant controls for each mic. This comes via XLR into my mixer. I could always double up, run 4 mics and still be happy? And so compressor is basically "normalising" the volume from the mics? Sorry, just thought it was more than that. |

I have one of the Yamaha mixers, and love it. Very clean, and the compression works well. I roger what Lonman said about the number of channels, it seems a big sparse, but if you are sure you aren't going to expand the number of mics it should work. |
