A question that might not get an answer but here goes

I know that Winamp can run multiple occurrences but how can I get
it to switch from one to the other automatically for running cover music?

I have been to shows where the KJ is running winamp and when the
Karaoke stops the cover music takes over, but do not understand
how this works.

Any help is appreciated.

the likes of roxbox runs two winamps and segues seamlessly between the two.
You can get a plugin for winamp that will give a similar effect with just the one player...damned if I can recall what its called. Someone here will know cos they sent it to me when I was installing a jukebox prog in a hotel laptop

Thanks Morgan

But it looks like my first sentence was correct as you are the only one that answered it. I will keep looking and trying out stuff to see what works.

What do all the rest of ya do just let it get quiet or what?

there are some winamp plugins that let you run multiple occurances.

I use winamp, but use a physical disc player to do my dj stuff, so I fade between the two with an amp.

Here is a link to some of the Winamp crossfade plugins---> http://www.winamp.com/plugins/search/?q=crossfade

Download a few and try them out to see if you like them or not.
I have tried Fadeamp v2.0 and WACF and both work.

Of course it depends on what Winamp frontend hosting program you are using (if any).
These will not work to your satisfaction with Sax N dotty's

If you are just using Winamp alone, yes one of these will do the trick for you.

Well I thought that my reply would generate replies and it did

Knightshow and others does this mean you stand by your equipment all the time and
do not work the crowd?

I like to go out and great people and sometimes miss the ending of the song and have
to hurry back to the puter for the next singer or have dead air. If the fade out-in plug-ins work this would eliminate this. I know its done as I have visited other clubs where the KJ works the crowd and gets hung up and his cover music takes over and I don't think they are running anything other than winamp.

Will have to see if they will give their secrets away.

p.s Thanks for all the help

There are different ways to do this...first what program are you using for your karaoke? Winamp alone? Sax N Dotty? Roxbox?
I guess I am assuming from your original post that you are using Winamp or a Winamp based hosting program.
If you use Roxbox it will do this automatically for you just as Morgan stated in her post. Just preload your fill music in the second queue.
If you are using Sax N Dotty you would just queue fill music after each karaoke song and tick the auto play box. (kind of a pain thow to have to queue individual fill songs)

If you are just using Winamp alone I am pretty sure the WACF plugin will do what you want automatically as well. (using a playlist)

I do go out in the crowd but find my way back to my equipment before the song ends. I have a hot button set up to fade out of the end of the karaoke song and into fill music and another hot button to fade out of fill music and start the next karaoke song.

I do not use winamp for my karaoke software. But do for filler music.

I run a multiple output soundcard called a gigaport.

Output 1 is PCDJ for karaoke

Output 2 is Winamp FIller music

Output 3 and 4 are for Vitual DJ

When the karaoke song is over I siply raise the fader on my mixer for my filler music.

You can do the same thing and just run multiple winamps and configure the soundcards.

of course I work the crowd.

I am just back by the time the song ends! If I think I'm not goling to make it, I merely enqueue a regular mp3 into the winamp that's playing the current singer.

I like the clubdjpro if you need to do this a lot. I want to use it totally, but right now, don't have the $200 for the program! LOL!

p.s Thanks for all the help

One of the reasons I like CompuHost is theri filler player and the fact that the singer screen tells you by changing the color of the dot in the marquee tells me when the song is ending.

I have a separate computer for my dj music which I use for in between singers (just long enough to get next singer up, never full songs). When the karaoke song is done, it gets faded out while the dj is faded in. Singer gets up, dj music fades out, karaoke fades in.
I do all my singer/music adjustments, cue up next songs/adjust rotation if new singers.
I think Compuhost does this automatically, but I prefer to be hands on - not sure if it does an actual fade where there is no pause/break in the music. The OTSdj program I use for fill automatically crossfades, beatmatches & blends the music into each other.
I do stand behind my booth with the equipment the majority of the night, the crowds are pretty pumped normally without me having to be out working them, but try to pop out when I can and visit tables when a song is playing & get back before it ends.
