I really like to know why when people come to my show and they act surpised when they get banned from singing by not following the rules listed in the front of each book . Did they think I had nothing better to then waste paper. As stated we run the Show not the establinhment and we have the right to refuse people to sing..to date 4 people have be banned for life..hey getting drunk is not an excuse for being stupid

14...16 tops
sorry dude you do not talk like an adult or certainly one with life experience and a IQ higher than your shoe size.

Banning people needs to be a last resort. Simply not following rules is a bit harsh for a ban...

wow little harsh Morgan :
banning 4 customers seems a little excessive - but then again you didn't mention which rule they broke ???? - If you think you lost 4 customers for life from singing they may not come back to the bar and they may cost 8 or 12 customers since no one drinks alone. LOL / Are your rules to strict for your bar?
do you have a wild crowd and need to re write some rules.?
banning customers is sometimes needed...but as mentioned should be a last resort
It's really a negative mark for both KJ and Singer unless they really did something out of line..PLEASE EXPLAIN and maybe you can get an apology for being insulted
WOW !!!!

Yeah, having to discipline marks against both parties, yourself included, not just the singer.
What did each of these 4 people do? I'd not ban anyone - I will tell them they can't sing again tonight if they are REALLY out of order, but that's about it.

I just dont tolerate peoples bad behavior. The bar owner are given a list of rules which also states I have the right to banned people from singing..not from the bar mind you. Ive seen to many people do what ever they want at karaoke show and it seems they think its a free for all...sometime if a singer acts like a child then its time to treat them like one.
As far as patting myself on the back for it..no..I wish I didnt have to use such measure but over the years people have come to understand . That I can and will use such measures if needed.
AS STATED BEFORE ALL KARAOKE SHOW ARE DIFFERENT...MY FEELING IS THIS ..IF YOU WANT TO COME AND SING AND HAVE A GOOD TIME..HEY IM ALL FOR IT...BUT IF YOU NOT GOING TO FOLLOW THE RULES GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. IM NOT THERE TO BABYSIT GROWN ADULTS

Banning as a last resort, anyone not following the rules will get a warning. If the antics continue, they will get cut off for the night. If they come in another night & continue, then a ban may be considered. I've only banned 5 people in 15 years.

Sorry, you are coming across like a little Hitler - how do you get bookings with an attitude like that.
This is not a personal attack, but as a KJ I feel that tolerance is a MASSIVE part of my toolbox!?

Honestly is not a bad thing the bars know I have control of whats going on..the bars themselves have enough to do anyway..as far as being like hitler...nah..you just got to let you singers know that there are rules and being drunk is no excuse

Yup, but the best rule is the one you don't need to actually enforce. Ruling with an iron fist is never the way forward!
Have a laugh! "Aw come on Ted, you're up here with a drink again. Waving it under my nose, tempting me. Teasing me with your beer. Go put it down, and then maybe we can talk about getting you a song up!"
Try that attitude, at least see what happens!?

I don't allow drinks or smokes up on the stage, so I put a little table next to the stage in which they can set their stuff down. Then if they need a drink, they can step off during a musical break. The bar since replaced the table with a nice full size wooden keg barrel which looks pretty cool anyway. Works out great.

ok ...... i look at it this way...when watching someone perform i dont want to see them walking off stage to get a drink..that is very rude toward audience members...and as an audience member they lose my attention and my respect..if they cant wait 5 min to do a song for a drink then they shouldn't be up there...this is not an arguement just how i feel..ill leave it at that

Gemini - to each his own, without knowing the infraction and if you issued warnings first its unfair to judge you on your policies.
Looking at your rules page on your site it comes acros of a lot of don'ts and don'ts
I've seen some rules pages were in the wording is more POSITIVE even sending the same messages.
A quick read thru your rules pages and I have not seen the word PLEASE once
Tells me something LMAO LMAO LMAO LMAO

I understand you concern..please...does not work .....if people know that can test your line they will..Everyone know my show are pretty layed back but as far as the rules go there no shades of gray either follow the rules or dont sing..most of the time there are no problems but i think thats because i nip it in the bud before it get to that point. I agree there are alot of donts on my rules on my website and in my book.....but that just lets everyone know come have a good time but dont cross the line...TTTTTOOO many people go to karaoke show and act however and think they can get way with it...NOT!!!!!!...I love my singers and want them to have a good time but they also relize they are in my backyard now...it a matter of respect. Im not a hard (@$%!) by no means but having control over what takes place..has worked.
needless to say I did have a customer/singer comment there were to many rules and he didnt like it..sorry.... then dont sing.

Really? It's karaoke....not a professional show I have paid tickets for. If the singer feels the need to take a drink in the middle of a song, what's the harm as long as they are not doing it on the stage or near your equipment if that is your rule? Singing can dry you out - especially if it's something you only do once in awhile - and the singer may NEED something to drink in the middle of their song (even professional singers have water close at hand and on rare occasions, I've seen them take a sip during an instrumental). Granted, an alcoholic beverage won't remedy this, but it makes them feel better. *shrug* Also, most karaoke singers are not there for the audience - to entertain the audience - but because they want to sing.
A KARAOKE singer losing your RESPECT for walking off stage to get a drink? Seems to me you're more suited to be running an open mic night in a piano bar or some kind of cabaret show . It sounds like you want a more "professional" level of singer than you generally find in a karaoke bar.

Funny how you would say as an audience member a person walking off the stage to take a sip would lose your attention & respect.
However in another thread you are thinking of adding karaoke with videos of the original artists...seems to me this would take massive focus off the singer & on to the screen. So if you want your audience watching the singer, you probably shouldn't consider the videos as people would tend to watch the videos and not the singers.
