Post subject:  Help!!!

I installed DJ Intellingence on the Site. It runs almost $100/yr but sun I have a small birthday party in Loveland which will be $150.. It was totally generated thru site with date availabilty checker and quote generator. On the phone she paid for the party and I immediately had it in paypal. I had to revise the quotes for they were too cheap. Today I had a local check the rates for a wedding I had to up the quotes immediately!!!

In the control panel I can tailor different quotes for about any situation. For those that do private parties I would appreciate if you check out the quote generatoras far as prices and give more options that can be tailored for all types of parties (packages offered) . Click on party planner then quote generator. WWW below...All ideas will be considered. Thanks Ollie

I think everyone kind of said the same thing when you first posted the thread that that was a low rate.
My private party rates depending on the event are from 3-5X my club rate.

I don't go by so much how many people are there. There is only time to do so many songs in a certain time frame. So whether there be 1 singer or 100 singers, I would charge the same - base rate would begin at 3 times club rate for basic casual dress, no frills type of party up to 5x for formal dress, hide all the wire from view, skirts on all tables etc.

What I used to have was equipment packages
Basic - small PA & 1000 most popular songs.
Deluxe - Full PA & 2500 songs
Premium - Full PA with subs & entire selection of songs (which at the time was around 8500)

Each system would be a little more over the base price of the basic system that is included in every. Each system would list out specs of the systems & what they could handle for the amount of people & then the ones that hire you can determine which system would be best. I usually booked out the deluxe & premium the most.

Add on's included lights, projector screens for lyrics/videow/slideshow presentations. DJ was also an add on as they were hiring karaoke entertainment - this was often purchased as well.

Thanks Lonnie I have bidded in many professions (sound system install, sheet rocking and taping your basement) and multi thousand dollar contracts. For some reason I cant bid parties according to the services we provide. Your last post gives me insight into quoting parties. We usually make more on staying longer when people find out what we have and tip us to stay longer. The extra for DJ also gives me some plans!!!

Im just starting to do private partys. this year im keeping them at about the same per hr as what I get paid at a 4 hr bar show. we do have one coming up on sat that is only planned for 2 hrs at $200. I told them it was 50 an hr , but with a 4 hr min. he said thats fine but we only expect to be 2 hrs. he understood when I told him that we had to make that as we could have easly booked a bar show at $250 that night. I see private partys (grad partys, or backyard partys with cover for the gear) as less hassle and stress than a bar gig. weddings are a big pain, and big money for a good reason. as of yet I will not take a wedding for anyone that isn't a friend or family.

If you are putting up a fee on a site I think you would want to give a figure along with a description such as "for three hours within a 30 mile radius of... for a group of up to..."

When I do this it's always one on one, and before I give a quote the first thing I say is "Congratulations!" and then...

So where are you having it? (They think I'm still congratulating them but what I'm trying to figure out is how far I'll have to drive.)

How many people did you invite? (This is not to charge per head, but to get an idea of how much gear I'll need for the job. They usually have no idea of what it takes to cover a group of 100 versus 500.)

What are the hours?

Then after mentally soaking this all in I'll give a price, reminding them that if the party goes over it will cost them extra.

When I quote a private party I'm more concerned about how far I have to travel. The farther away the bigger the price. It's my time they are paying for. I really don't care how many people there are.

Especially now with the price of fuel. I add a fuel surcharge on, unless it's purely a PR gig. So they will pay a nonrefundable deposit when they book the gig, and at that time I explain the fuel surcharge. Since everyone is in the position of having to do that now, nobody seems to question it.

Agree completely Bill... I didnt think I'd get any business from DJ Intelligence but I'm getting more and more bites. Thats why I am tailoring the quote generator and deciding upon prices.

Packages now:

Basic KJ or DJ. $75/hr.

This is a budget price for those small parties such as birthday parties. 50 or less guests. (min 2 hrs)

KJ DJ COMBO. $100/hr

Combination of karaoke or DJ depending upon the crowd. We take requests for both.

Deluxe. $150/hr

Includes video taping of singers and events, audio recording of singers. Any other service needed will provided if possible with extra charge such as security bar tenders etc.

Ideas??

Yea Babs I have got free motel rooms for out of town gigs as part of the package.

That's pretty cool. I've never done a private party that far away.

Ive done it a few times. It's nice to shutdown, unwind and have a couple of beers then go get a good nights sleep. Then have a good breakfast, pack up and head home.

We've done that, too - packed up the equipment and drove east of the mountains to do music for a wedding. We did stay in a motel that time but we also have a 27-foot travel trailer that we can use for those types of things. Nice to have your 'house' with you for breaks, etc. All equip fits in the pickup. No regular Sat. gig allows us to do this when we want - summer is too short in the PNW not to get out and enjoy the long days and warm weather (if it EVER comes this year).
