Post subject: | Another SET UP question |
My Saturday gig is at a smallish bar - my speaker set up is 2 -15" speakers stacked one on top of another in a mono set up. WORKS WELL for me. Sound near the pool table and dance area is GREAT and volume gets lower as you walk away from the speakers to where it is audible at the far end but you can talk without screaming . again works well. The New Thursday gig is at a larger bar ( little wider but about the same length ). I've been setting up 2 15" speakers spread out in a stereo set up. The STEREO set up is NOT ideal as it rarely is. If you stand in the middle of the place sounds GREAT and as you can imagine as you walk to one side you start to hear that speaker MORE until you can't really hear the other one . ( you know what I mean) . I'm thinking about using a STACKED system again. 2 -15" on the floor stacked one on top of the other in a stereo set up at in the MIDDLE at one end of the place by the singers and dance area. THOUGHTS ? Pro's Cons? |

Without knowing what the coverage angle of your horns are I couldn't give an accurate suggestion. I do know I'm not a big fan of stacking "like" speakers as this increases the risk of the cancellation effect. If you are stacking, I hope you are tipping the upper cabinet over in an attempt to couple the horns. If your horn angle is over 60 degrees horizontal, then arranging in a cluster isn't a good idea either. What model speakers are you using? |

I don't see why you're using stereo for karaoke, particularly when you note that the setup is not ideal? Why aren't you using mono for all situations? |

Is it the older UB1222FX or the the Xenex 1222FX? The speakers you have use a 100X50 horn that can be rotated. That makes it possible to cluster both speakers on one side if you have the need to but you would want to rotate the horn 90 degrees to make it a 50X100. I've been experimenting with using a cluster on one side instead of the more traditional one stack per side. It can come in handy when doing a room with a less than friendly lay out. At this point the jury is still out in my case. |

Bridging the amp scares me Bridging shouldn't scare you. Just pay attention to the right terminal -- even then the speaker will only be out of phase, not the end of the world. The question is whether the mixer has a mono out. If it does not, then it becomes difficult to get a mono signal. The way, I guess, is to send your music to two mono channels and drive the speakers off of the left output. |
