| Post subject: | Speakers and Amp or powered speakers? |
I'm looking for a setup for home karaoke. I have a laptop and a Berhinger UB-1204 Pro. Do you recommend powered speakers or an amp and speakers? Any suggestions? Don't want anything huge but something that has pretty good sound. I was originally looking at getting something like a Kustom Profle PA one but don't need the mixer since I have the 1204 and I assume the FX are better in the 1204 anyway. Also do you think the Berhinger USB external soundcard is a good choice for this kind of setup? |

Less hassle with powered speakers in a home setting. If you want something to make noise, then the Behringer USB is fine. If you want more audiophile quality, then no. |

Check out the powered mixers from Behringer - They have some inexpensive ones for as low as $199 along with speakers as low as $99 - FOR A HOME SYSTEM these are fine and affordable. BUt if you think you'll get GRAND ideas of having a JAMMING party etc or going on the road --You may gave to cough up the bucks

Are you saying I would be better off not using that and getting a mixer/amp? I saw that Berhinger has some decent priced active speakers. Any experience with those? This is simply for the house. Before I built the new house I was using a PC with the 1204 and running it into my Harmon Kardon A/V receiver out to my AV123 Rockets. Sorry --Since you have a pro-audio type mixer --All you need is powered speakers and those would be a good choice ! Does you mixer have EFFECTS built in ?? |

Since you have the mixer, get one or two of these Behringer B212A Powered Speakers. Theses are 12" powered speakers, that run around $220 each. You could go up to the 15 inch ones (B215A), but the 12's will do great for home use. |

Does you mixer have EFFECTS built in ?? Yes it has 99 built in effects. Although I was never really sure which one was the best to use.

No real set setting, just listen to the original song & try to match up the effect. Reverb is typically used (to some degree or another) in every recorded song in history. Some will also use many of the other effects like delay, flange, chorus, etc...or a combo of several all at once. This is a play by ear & what sounds good to you, again, no right or wrong setting, just what sounds good to you! |

For me honestly it's just their quality & lack there of, but that's my opinion & others seem to like them - probably due to their low cost. Well you could always start off with one. It won't be a stereo set-up which I do prefer in home settings, but it's not always needed either. Depending on the mixer, you would just pan all channels to the output the speaker is plugged into. You could always add a second speaker later. |
