I'm a real big fan of "good" cover versions. I don't mean "good" as in "faithful to the original" - I see little point in these. Rather I mean "good" as in "a different interpretation". So what are your favourites if you're into this? My 2 right now: Emm Gryner = Pour Some Sugar On Me (originally by Def Leppard) Pink Nasty = Burn (originally by Usher) |

Wow, amazing link. I have to say I never liked MM's version of Tainted Love (cos I just can't sing it). |

Oh another: Come On Eileen - originally by Dexy's Midnight Runners... Jools Holland & his orchestra did a cover with Badly Drawn Boy on vocals. I never liked the original, but this version just blew me away! |

Kim Wilde did the Supremes but so did Vanilla Fudge, their cover of "You Keep Me Hangin' On" was totally kick a$$ (very bluesy). Eva Cassidy - Songbird (Fleetwood Mac cover) Malibu Storm - Photograph (Def Leppard cover) |

"I'm a believer" with Smash Mouth, originally by the Monkees. Although Eddie Murphy did a decent job on Shrek. "Hound Dog" by Elvis, originally done by Willie "Big Mama" Thornton "Blinded by the light" by Manfred Mann's Earth Band, originally by the Boss, Bruce Springsteen. "American Woman" by Lenny Kravitz, originally by Guess Who I love both versions "Billie Jean" originally done by Michael Jackson but I heard this semi-acoustic version from last year I really liked. Forgot who did it. I have a few more, I will think of them later. |

God Only Knows, writen by Brian Wilson, originally performed by The Beach Boys. The definitive cover just has to be Neil Diamond's version which is the first song on the album "I'm Glad You're Here With Me Tonight". |

Gotta argue with you a bit here Murrlyn , David Bowie did a great crooner version of God Only Knows on his Tonight CD too! |

Best covers, IMHO ALL go to The Nylons...Canadian a capella group (or at least they used to be ) Safer to just name the group than all the songs...they're ALL pretty darn good!!! |

I am too, about his original songs. Little admitted fact... my very first concert was Rod Stewart, from the "Tonight I'm Yours" tour (only song that really was popular on that was "Young Turks" - a song some mistakenly think of as "Young Hearts"). |

Ahhhhhhhh, now that would depend on the crowd/venue! You could have a buncha Elvis haters (it happens!), a crowd of blues lovers, or just a crowd who loves to hear something out of the norm |

You could have a buncha Elvis haters (it happens!), a crowd of blues lovers, or just a crowd who loves to hear something out of the norm I would probably have to be in that category of the Haters, not Elvis so much but because of the many impersonators that use a karaoke show to advertise their bit. The fact that so many of them are real awful, too. A guy comes in with the whole get-up, side burn, glitter suit and boots, and just bombs. This is different from the lessor talented singer who chooses to do an Elvis tune, simply because they aren't trying to BE Elvis. Sorry for OT rant. |
