I have a regular gig that started four years ago. I have always played from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. The third shift guys that get off work at 7 a.m. were complaining to the bar owner that they want entertainment, more specifically, karaoke. The bar owner an I came to an agreement that I would play every other Saturday morning from 8 a.m. to noon beginning next month.
Have any of you ever played in the morning? I am concerned that the crowd will be slow to develop and I'll have to sing. My voice isn't the same in the morning as in the evening.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Also, I will be playing that night at the same bar; a double split shift, if you will. Double the money, of course. What do you all think?

I know of one 8am show for night shift, in Greensburg Indiana. I have never been there, but to all accounts it goes over well.
The night show is done by Doug, and his wife Linda does the morning show. The night show is on Thursday, and the morning on Friday, so there is only one load-in / load-out. This makes sense.

Can't hurt to give it a shot and see what happens. Certainly a unique way to cater to your guests, which is cool of the owner. I say go for it. Worst case scenario is that it doesn't work out and you go back to doing nights. No harm no foul.

I have to agree that it is really great that the bar owner thinks enough of his customers to give this a try. I would say that the pressure is on the customers that talked him into having it to bring in the customers. If not, it's not like it is your fault if it does not work.
I hope it works out for you though!
Keep us posted on how this turns out

I just heard that there is a bar in my area that has changed ownership; the previous owners were not interested in karaoke at all. This place has a lot of customer’s, from 3rd shift factory workers, that come in on Friday mornings to cash paychecks and have a few. I am going up there tomorrow to see if they would be interested in having karaoke on Friday mornings, or if not, maybe I can book it for a night show.
I would definitely give the morning show a try. Like was said, if it doesn’t work out your not going to be the one to take the blame as you already have a successful night show in the place.

Wow I've never done a morning show.
What a great idea though - I have to wonder if the am crowd will sing mellower songs.
I don't think there is much you can do about the morning voice problem exept maybe start off with easier songs. I have the feeling once you've warmed up your voice will be fine though.
My problem would be staying awake . I am more a night person myself.
GOOG LUCK

Most of the parties I've done and the 2 $$$ gigs I did were in the morning after getting off nights at 7am.
One thing that makes it more fun, drinking and partying in the morning just aint right!!! so that makes it more fun!! he he
and there is a nice advantage....it is less likely people will get caught for a DUI. no judgment here, just a fact.
watch out for noise issues, different noise laws for different times of day, but you probably dont have to worry about that since no private party
morning parties ROCK!

Thanks for your suggestions. The beer thing at 8a.m. is going to be tough to deal with. I don't drink, anyway, but my stomache is kinda weak in the morning. I'll have to take your suggestion, Babs, and start out with easier songs.
I'll let you know how it goes.
Thanks all.
