Using 4 Shure wireless mics and I think I may be able to save money in the long run using some that I can just recharge. Need AA size. What are y'all using and how long are they lasting you? |

Well I bought the new energizer rechargables. I must say, I can't be happier. You get (4) for like $12, plus like $35 for the charger. I bought the originals that came with a set and a pack of (4) more. I've been using them every weekend, I switch them out each night, whether they got used or not. It was costing me $8 a weekend, easy.....now I'm still on my first batches. It's been like 9mths If they start failing, I'll buy a new set. I love them! |

Ditto the Energizers. I have three sets and they last forever. Definitely a sound investment. |

Thanks for the replies. Can you point me to a link with the actual type of batteries and charger? I have seen a few different types. Thanks |

It is very bad to use rechargable batteries in wireless microphones due to the voltage drop. Best solution is to buy batteries at Sam's Club or Costco. I get 32 AA for $13 and 10 9V for $17 |

Best solution is to buy batteries at Sam's Club or Costco. I get 32 AA for $13 and 10 9V for $17 I was told the same thing from the dealer who sold me my Shure SM 58 Wireless mics he suggested regular alkaline batteries because rechargables are not good for the mic itself. I have found my best battery life coming from Walgreen's AA and 9V Alkalines. If you watch the sales you can get AA's for 3.99 for 16 pack, and 9V 10 pack for 5.99 when they are on sale I buy a 6 months supply of both. I found they out perform Duracell's by an average of 25% on life. |

Hmmm.... Is it just me or do regular batteries not see a voltage drop when they are losing their juice? (going dead) THanks |

Hmmmmmmmm, that is a very interesting statement. I have had zero problems to date, but it's something to watch. I think if I couldn't use the rechargables, I'd go to a wired mic for myself....MrD (time to read up on this....) Well I did some reading.....IMO simply *hogwash* One point....Why is it when you buy some shure wireless microphones it comes with (4) recharagable batteries? Although I agree with the technology issue, the rechargeables hold less and less of a charge each time that they are charged (only if they are not charged correctly). That means it's a degradation thing and they work just fine for a period of time. My point is: If they start screwing up or even better yet, use a replacement schedule (such as every 6/9/12 mths, depending on your amount of useage) by a new set and either throw the old one away or just use in the in flashlights or something. You are still WAY ahead. Even if they were to damage the microphone in 2 years or something. You'd be so far ahead $ wise, saved from buying the batteries, you could go and buy a new microphone. I've found them to work up to 2x's as long as brand new out of the package standard batteries, some wouldn't even last a 4-5hr show and I'm not talking about cheapies. I bought only duracell and energizers. I haven't had a set die, during a show since buying them. If they start screwing up, I'll buy a new set, non-issue.......Sorry, I'm sold on them. MrD please also from "shure's website about this non-issue" http://shure.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/shure ... A%2A&p_li= |

There should be nothing wrong with using rechargeable NiMH AA batteries in a wireless mic. They will generaly last longer than alkaline batteries as their capacity will be far higher (typically 2400 mAH against 1200 mAH). The voltage of a 1.5 V alkaline cell will drop below the operating voltage of the mic sooner than a 2400 mAH NiMH cell, so I guess lyquiddye should also say that the use of alkaline batteries (or any battery for that matter) is very bad for wireless microphones. One thing to be aware of if using NiMH rechargeables.... Their charge dissipates relatively rapidly when not being used (ie, they have a very short shelf life). If you charge them fully and leave them for a few weeks, then you will probably find that they will require another recharge before use. I often leave a set of batteries on trickle charge so that they are always ready to use. This will not harm the NiMH cells, but don't try this if using NiCD cells! The most reliable NiMH AA batteries I have used (same four cells since Jan 2002) are the 'QUEST" brand. These cells are still going strong after many charge/discharge cycles over the last six years. I think the company that made these now markets them under the "E-CELL" brand. I am currently successfully using Lithium rechargeable 9V batteries in my Shure wireless mic. 9V NiMH are not recommended due to their low capacities. If anyone is going to be using 9V rechargeables, make sure the voltage of these is 8.4V, not 7.2 V (which will probably not work) or 9.6 V (which will probably kill your mic). I would recommend the iPower 9V batteries and charger. |

Thank you for that link to Shures site. Looks like if you use AA batteries they work just fine for their microphones with no adverse affect. AA is what I use in 2 of my SM58's so I may give the rechargeables a try! I will continue to use Alkaline 9V in my Older SM58 I appreciate pointing us in the right direction! |

Thanks for the advice... picked up the energizer 15 minute charger plus 8 extra batteries... Used it Saturday night with no problems. Thanks again, D.J. |
