Post subject:  Laurel Falls Hike

Went on a hike today with my son. He recently moved back home and he has been helping me paint our house while we are both looking for new jobs. The hike was about thirty miles from here near to a place called Laurel Falls. We had a very nice time. It was about a 5 mile hike I guess. The first part of the trail follows a mountain stream and seemed to be a narrow road that may be long abandoned railroad bed. The trail passes the entrance to an abandoned coal mine. We went into it just a few feet since we didn’t have flashlights. The trail soon leaves the railbed and becomes winding, steep and narrow. The falls is quite beautiful but I found my camera batteries were dead so no pictures. Anyway we got a little lost on the way back down and had to back track to find the main trail again. It started to rain just as we got back to the car. We called home and my wife had dinner ready when we got home, so all in all it was a nice day.

It sounds like you really had a wonderful day. It's so nice you can spend time with your son.

Yes we have a good time together. He is a great guitarist and song writer although he recently left his band. He sometimes sings karaoke with me too.

Thanks, hike was the first for me in a few years. My son has been doing more hiking and camping than I have here lately. So I was a bit sore today. Not too sore to go again soon I hope. I stay in shape (sort of) by swimming laps at the Y. Alaska in a canoe sounds good, but I probably won't ever get around to seeing Alaska.
