I have two sets of speakers. One set is my go-to rig for indoor parties, a pair of Peavey PR-10 tops along with a PR-Sub (15"). It sounds great and I am happy. For outdoors, I think that maybe the more air I push, the better. I have a pair of B1520 15" tops that can crank out some pretty serious sound, and that is what I have been using at my state park outdoor gig. I have an outdoor wedding reception coming up, and I would far prefer to take the PR-10s and PR-Sub. My suspicion is that the 15" tops (sans sub) will sound better outdoors. Does anyone have an opinion on which set of speakers would be better? |

I don't think either of the are ver good sounding setups. You best bet is to hook them both up and fid out which you like better. You might even want to try the 15" tops with your sub. |

I think both are pretty decent for indoor karaoke, and the B1520s do respectable for outdoor when driven by the right number of watts. I guess I could run both outside my office and listen there, cranked. For three minutes my neighbors can survive (they are a good 500 feet away). I can't take the 15" and the sub together for lack of transport space. If I kick my wife out of the car I could probably fit it all in, but I think she would object.

I went with the 15" speakers, and they were *more* than enough. I never even pushed them. Of course we only had about 50 people, and there was mostly karaoke and not that much dance music. Everything sounded great, and either of my setups would have been fine. |

The sound was great -- "clear but not so loud it was overbearing" was one comment. It is amazing how setting eq and mix makes the vocals stand out; so many setups sound terribly muddy. |

I just got back from my monthly outdoor gig at the Whitewater State Park. I took the Peavey PR-10/PR-Sub combination this time. Those speakers are nowhere near as good outdoors as the B1520 pair. While the sound was (barely) acceptable, it was nowhere near as rich and full as the pair of 15" mains. I have learned my lesson -- it is the pair of bigger and heavier speakers that play better outdoors. |
