I kind of brought this up in the This Decade thread. What gets sung a bunch in one area doesn't ever get sung in another. I'm saying it has to do with age as part of the factor.
What is the average age group of your shows.

These polls aren't really worth a ton as far as choices, but I will do it in 10 year incriments and then a couple other options. Discuss your answer.

My average age is between 21-41. Lots of rock & country, very little "standard" type songs like Sinatra and the likes. Not very often is anything older than the 70's played.

Millennials. Under 30. No one else in the area was catering karaoke to them so I now have a room full of 'em. Music profile of the room is a lot like Lonnie's with maybe a little more emphasis on current stuff and without language restrictions.

My crowds are typically older, but I always have some 20-somethings too. I have every age group, all the time. When you live in the country, there are only so many places to go. So everyone comes.

Yikes, I didn't see the 21-41 option down below, or that's what I would have chosen. I chose 21-31.... but there are quite a few mid-30'ish people that hang out often as well.

Dang, can't change my vote now, sorry.

That's kinda how it is here, most people don't like to drive to far. Many here walk to the bars- seems everyone drinks, literally, and these small town cops have nothing better to do than hide in the bushes across from the bars (Barney Fife style cops, Lol) . We have 2 bars that do karaoke... but many of the seniors go to the VA hall in town (karaoke on fridays), cause they don't like to mix with young'uns:)

When I start play the average of the room would be 41 - 61. The younger people come in a hour or two into the show. I consistantly have all age groups at the two shows I do.

Both shows are at same bar and its the only bar that has karaoke every week in the county.

One place I go to the crowd can vary quite a bit. I would say it's in the 21-41 range, but sometimes it can be more country leaning, and sometimes more R&B leaning. Last time I walked in the door and could tell it was going to be a complete R&B night. I sing very little R&B. The thought crossed my mind that maybe I should step out and hit the bar a mile down the road. But instead I stayed. It was a "character building" night.

I like singing at places where this is a wide variety of ages and people. It keeps the night more interesting and gives me more flexibility to sing a greater variety.

My groups are usually in the 21-41 range, but I've had folks in their 60s and 70s join in, too. A really mixed room leads to interesting song selections:
Nat King Cole followed by Hoobastank followed by George Jones followed by Sam & Dave followed by No Doubt followed by Doris Day followed by Ozzy Osbourne...

 lonnie,

Because my show caters to the older patron, the singers below 40 are few and far between. Now, some of the peolple who come with the "older" ones are usually sons or daughters....family members, but the range in my show actually goes from 45 - 65+. I think you'd be surprised how much the "old folk" can still "kick it". They definitely know how to have a good time!!

I wish ya had one that was 21-61... at least when I was in portland... that was the norm. Nowadays it's the 21-41 and I'm excluding myself! LOL!

I hosted in a VFW for 3 or 4 years. Same old songs week after week and couldnt get any young people in. Since then in another bar I have hired one of the best hosts ever with a feel for the newer music. It is not uncommon to have a teen sing early in the evening followed by a 70 year old singing Sinatra. Our singers are of all ages. The crowd varies, mostly 30,s and 40's but some nights can be an older mellow crowd. Other times college kids.

Sometimes I get a crowd of my old customers from the V but they dont like the high prices of the drinks. I get burned out with the same age group or a dominant genre all the time. Need a high energy and wide variety or I go to sleep!!!

Your choice of filler music has a role in what type or age group you attract.

This is hard to answer. My main ages are usually between 21 - 65. I get 3 generations of family sometimes. The younger ones bring their parents and the older ones bring their kids. I love that.

I get everything, but I'd say Friday nights seem to be the night the young ones come out. Wednesdays are everthing and Saturdays is more couples night.

I'd like to add that it doesn't matter the age of the person they sing every style. I have 60 year olds singing current songs and 21 yr olds singing Sinatra and Elvis.

Last night I had an 80 yr old Japanese man sing Save a Horse Ride a Cowboy accent and all. LMAO

One of my regs in portland used to routinely sing stuff from his generation (twentysomething) and then he'd do "Fly Me To The Moon" as if he'd KNOWN Frankie! I always loved when this dude would come in. I learned to sing that song because of him. The movie "Space Cowboys" reflammed that desire to do that song. I was never that good at crooning, but used to do okay at it.

I had the option
I CONSISTANTLY have all age groups in this poll at EVERY show I work! which would have spanned the 21-61..... :D

I was in Japan in the early 90's on a business trip. I'd never been to a foreign country before other than Canada. Off the plane in Tokyo, we went to our hotel, the Takanawa Prince. I turned on the tv that night just to see what was on. There was a Japanese guy in a buckskin jacket singing Davey Crocket!!!

It blew me away! And in a way, I never felt so close to home!

As mentioned above, I like going to place with a large age range because I feel more comfortable singing a greater variety of songs. I like singing some of the Sweet Georgia Brown jazz songs, but they don't always fit in with every karaoke crowd so I rarely sing them--songs like Body and Soul, Satin Doll, and Stella by Starlight. One place I used to go to, a mother and daughter would attend. The daughter would sing mostly songs from the 80's. Her mom loved it when I sang the older jazz songs.
