Cool story! I think that music does keep seniors alive longer. My grandfather was actively involved in Old Time Fiddlers until he was almost 100. Said it was what got him out of bed every day.

Karen you rock!

I see this all the time in my bar. An elderly man comes in by himself and sings karaoke all night long. I'm always surprised when they stay till close. I see it mainly with men. I wonder if it is the generation. Men go to bars by themselves, but woman don't. They are always welcomed with open arms by the patrons. You have to have respect for someone at that age still getting out there and living life !

The "elderly" man stays until closing hoping to be taken home by some younger woman

Years ago, at our first club, there was an older gentleman who went by the name of "Pal Joey" - he was from Hackensack (SP?) NJ - at the time he started frequenting our show he was in his late 60s. He could sing the oldies like Sinatra with the most amazing voice ever. All the women swooned over him. He has since left our area but we keep in touch. He is now 80, I think, and continues to frequent karaoke bars whenever he can. He's a bit hard of hearing but still carries a tune just beautifully. It is his recreation. He still calls me a few times a year and tells me about his karaoke escapades...and how he makes all the women smile...

At times if I dont have help hauling in I run short of breath and have to sit down for a few minutes. If the day comes when I need an oxygen bottle and walker I will still setup and do a show. As long as folks enjoy it and sit there with smiles on their faces I will still do it. Does it keep me young? At times I am 30 years old again and feeling my oats. And yes I do have talent and can make the ladies smile..

Being happy and singing makes you live longer. Very nice!

My voice teacher is also a yoga teacher. She says that singing and yoga both prolong life because they focus on breathing. Breathing, according to her, is the most important thing you can do.

Of course we all believe in the things we do, but she is 63 and has the body of a forty year old -- she is so limber you would simply not believe it. And energy? I just wish I had it at ten years younger.
