Which would you say are those songs that stand up best to a poor rendition, and which are the most merciless.
As a comparison, I find a clarinette in unskilled hands less "Fingernail on blackboard" than a violin in similar hands.
Food for thought?

wow that is a very difficult question Ian

for you I would say songs that tell as story would be right up your alley, convoy would be a good example ...as to the worst well I couldnt really think of any

There's all kinds of examples, but here's a couple that were done from last time in my room:

Most resistant last Thurs: "I Hate Myself For Loving You". First of all this song always goes over, and even if someone can't sing a note they can just get away chanting it and the room will fill in the blanks.

Least: "My Immortal." (Edited because I was a little too catty eariler... just waking up.) I don't understand why women gravitate to this song. Maybe it's a catharsis thing. Anyway it's mostly a series of exposed, sustained, long high notes, and that's all I'm going to say this time. ;)

"One Scotch, One Bourbon, One Beer" Mostly spoken and a long one minute guitar solo so even a inebriated person can't screw this one up provided he can read. It's fourteen minutes long so you can take a potty break or get yourself served at the bar. If a KJ allows two songs per singer, I just do this song only so not to tick off the other customers. Heck, if I added White Bird (7 minutes), the KJ could drive to the next town and back.

Any slow tempo songs when sang badly sound real bad; but
a fast song is more forgiving when sang badly.
