Post subject: | Vibration causing discs to skip? |
I recently switched to a laptop karaoke setup. In one particular bar where I run a show, the area where I set up is tight, and the table I put the gear on is next to one of my speakers. Two of the customers had their own discs, and both skipped when I played them through the laptop. Normally, they play fine in the laptop, and tested this after the show (one of the people is a good friend who hung out till the end). When I wasn't near the speaker, no skipping. I can only imagine it was the sound vibrating the table, and thus the laptop. Do any of you use a pad under your laptop at a show? If so, what kind? Thanks! - Frank |

I had this problem with regular disc players as well. You can try just a nice piece of foam rubber about a 1/2"-1" thick. |

Do that with a Laptop, and you are giving it a death sentence. Laptops ventilate from the bottom. sorry............... |

Well then if one vents out the bottom just cut out 4 2" foam circles & use them like feet under the laptop. |

I put a piece of 1/4" plywood on the top of my hunk of foam when I was running discs. Another foam fan here... it works. |

I was also thinking plywood on top of the foam. when I setup I always put a cheep cookie cooling rack under my laptop to let more air under it. I doubt you really HAVE to do this, but it sure doesnt get hot. |

You don't put the foam under the laptop itself. you put a board under the laptop and the foam under the board. |

You can get laptop or monitor stands with venting on the bottom anywhere. Not necessarily those $100 ones that attach to your rack, but something more akin to this: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product. ... d=10198392 I've got one that cost me $15, and it's very similar to the one shown above. |

Thanks for all the responses. My laptop vents on the side, so I'll check out the foam! |
