I want to get one of these for my rack to eq. I have the sonic maximizer but would like to be able to tweak the sound more if need be. Which unit is better for doing that? I heard many good things about the DEQ2496 and it can act as a crossover.

If those are the only choices you are giving, I prefer dbx personally, with your Sonic Maximizer already in the picture, i'd probably opt for the FBQ3102.

The FBQ3102 has a mono sub out function to allow it to act as a poor man's crossover. I was not aware that the DEQ2496 has multiple outs for a crossover -- I believe you may be thinking of the DCX2496.

The nice thing about the DEQ2496 is the auto-EQ function, which allows you to ring out the room with an RTA function. Unless you have a very practiced ear, it is usually going to do a better EQ job than you can yourself.

I am not as down on Behringer as Lonman is. He definitely knows more than I do, but I see Behringer putting out a lot of pretty decent stuff and some pros agree. But in this case, the DBX DriveRack PA does the same thing as the above two units (DCX2496 and DEQ2496) together. It costs more, but you get crossover, EQ, and RTA all in one rack space. I look at it as the sweet spot for that type of unit.

I personally would go with the FBQ1502 or 3102 to begin with, then after you can justify more expense go for the DriveRack PX or DriveRack PA.

If you are moving in the direction of more and better sound as it seems like you are, eventually you will want an EQ for your monitor and effects boxes anyway, so it won't be a waste. I think the 1/3 octave EQ is probably enough unless your ear is real good. I learned on the 1502, then as my ear got better I moved to the FBQ3102. I use the FBQ1502 now for rolling off low frequencies into my effects box, and for equalizing the monitor to prevent feedback.

If I recall this is all for an inhome only system to begin with.

Not completely in home. Will be as portable as possible so I can take it to a larger venue (like my friend's mansion :D ) Thanks for the advice. I'm just wondering if the RTA will interfere with the maximizer.

If you want it portable, the DriveRack PA hands-down. It gives you EQ, crossover, and maximizer in one rack slot.

I don't think you will need the maximizer, but it won't interfere. You could put it on the music channel coming in, or after the mixer.
