I've been KJ for about 5 years now, but am just going digital.
I'm looking for a good suggestion on some good DJ only software for my non-karaoke gigs. I don't need anything fancy, just something with A/B source decks and a crossfader (preferably automatic). I've seen alot of Freeware that will suit my needs. Anyone have one they use they they really like (free or inexpensive works)??

they have a good dual deck player. They have a few different options... from a $99 player on up!
To be honest, you can't do better than pcdjred! It's fantastic, and proven for many, MANY years!

What I really like about it the most is it will do a little check of all your music and find the appropriate fade in/fade out point so it sounds like a pro mix. Most programs you either have a set time that may or may not work with all songs or you have to manually set the points for each song.
Also has a very nice dynamics feature which normalizes the songs automatically.
They also have a 30 day trial. Check it out.

Traktor DJ Studio is what I use. Has many of the same features as a normal mixer/dual CD player setup, and can be set up to work with your mixer and CD players if they're USB compatible. It's $199 well spent.
PCDJ Red as mentioned by knightshow is a good product as well, but quite a resource hog. Make sure you have plenty of RAM, or do not run any other programs while running it.

I have searched far and wide. I've tried lots of programs. I finally found a program that is simple and inexpensive, it's easy to learn and it has automatic crossfading and beatmixing. Sound quality is very good too.
The program is called DJMixPRO. It's $20. It has lots of features, but it's simple and straightforward. The program is very stable under XP and Vista.
Don't let the inexpensive price fool you. Download the free demo and try it out.

Thanks, stogie, that was EXACTLY what I was looking for.
I have an old, outdated laptop from 2001 (900 mhz, 448 RAM, 30 GB) sitting around that I wanted to make my "DJ" laptop, but most programs took up way to many resources. This one takes 32 RAM and only 200 mhz processing speed!!!
In addition to my two nights of karaoke, I run the DJ show at the beach for a monthly cornhole (bag toss) tourney that attracts about 300-400 people monthly (it is sponsered by a retired NBA player). I have been manually crossfading two iPods, but with this program I am going to just set it and forget it while I am out doing commentating and announcing on my wireless mic!!! Then I'll just dial up some fan favorites when I have time.
PERFECT!!!
Thanks again!!

eeeek call me old I cannot recall who recommended this software to me, but I love it...its called party time jukebox. It was only bout $29 US I believe and I had occasion to contact the people and ask for a new key. I bought it over a year ago but the laptop I had it on crapped itsel so they gave me a new key to install it on a new laptop.
I love it...its easy to use, colourful and is compatible with touch screen technology. Add the winamp crossfader plug in and you have seemless music...addd the compressor plugin and you dont need to worry bout tweaking volume.
I was looking at providing a touch screen for the hotel...but frankly the old duck who is supposed to upsell anything like these things, overlooks it cos she doesnt understand it, so it never gets used.
But I love it and am thinking of setting it up on my gig laptop to allow me to be more multifunctional...for instance I have been approached to do a wedding that they want mostly 80s music...I loathe and detest that decade of music...so if I want to do the wedding I would probably utilise the jukebox to play the music I would vomit if I tried to sing

Definately well worth the $20. I bought it and now use it exclusively for my non Karaoke gigs. For my mixed karaoke/DJ Gigs and my Karaoke gigs I run CompuHost.
