I consider myself a person who can sing somewhat decently on a good day, but I'm not a singer in the serious, technical or professional sense of the word. Every so often I attempt to record my vocal for a possible SS sub but it gets frustrating trying to get a vocal down that is mistake free (or at least fairly close to it) from beginning to end. It's tough having to redo an entire song because of one or two errors and hope it'll come out just right, but it's also a pain to edit and punch-in at just the right spot and still maintain a sound of continuity. So my question is, how do you SS subers handle your own screw ups when it comes to recording your own vocals? Just do it all over again from the top or fix it with an edit or in the mix? Or are there other options I'm not considering. I don't know how you frequent SS subers do it! My hats off to you! |

ok I might record 2 or 3...ok sometimes 7 or 8 seperate tracks, if I really care about the song...which isnt often...they might be full tracks or they may be just a verse or two...until I feel that there is enough material to work with. Then I silence out the bits I dont want and mix all the tracks together. Obviously you need a multitrack recorder for that and a decent soundcard...I used to try with the external soundblaster and had mixed success. Now I have an m-audio and dont have the latency probs I used to have |

Hey Odie. It all depends on how much time I've invested in the song. If I've just started recording, like on the first or second run through then I'll re-record the whole thing. I like to have everything in one take if possible. Of course being human that isn't always possible so if I do mess up bad enough that I won't just let it pass then I just move to another track and sing the part I messed up on. If it sounds O.K. I zero out that part of my first track and then select them all and perform the same equalization and reverb, etc. on all of it at once. Man. Am I long winded or what? I hope that was close to the answer you're looking for. Basically, after going back and reading Vicki's again, it's pretty much the same thing as hers. Travis |

Very aggressively and loud. Oh wait... recording? Pretty much the same thing. |

Hey Travman, your technique makes perfect sense to me! Thanks for the advice! Charmin, well I kinda figured you might take the same approach to different things in life! Thanks! |
