I am wanting to buy a speaker/ amp setup. Here is what I have been considering.
I want plenty of power but with good clean highs and plenty of base. I have been looking at Peavey by recommendation and name. I have been looking on Musiciansfriend and the Behringer equipment looks nice and seems affordable also. Any thoughts on that brand? Any comments or feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Need this for Djing/Karaoke Private Parties (50-150 people range)

Scenario 1: (Cheapest scenario but I am afraid not enough base?)
Peavey PV115 (Single 15" 2-Way)
Peavey PV1500 AMP

Scenario 2:
Peavey PV115 (Single 15" 2-Way)
Peavey PV1500 AMP
Peavey PV118 single 18" Subwoofer

Scenario 3:
Peavey PV215 (Dual 15" 2-Way)
Peavey PV-1500 AMP

I have a feeling when you say you want plenty of bass, your probably thinking the kind of bass you feel and hear. If that is the case, you are not going to achieve that without a sub. As to the specific items your are inquiring about. Keep in mind most manufacturer's make more than one line of equipment. In the case of Peavey, the PV series is pretty much entry level and won't hold up under hard use. It might hold up moderately for Karaoke use, but I doubt you would be happy using it in a dj situation. I don't know what your budget is so it is hard to recommend anything in particular. Maybe the Yamaha S series or Electrovoice Force series might be something to look into for you if your on a moderate budget. You may want to consider powered speakers when you factor in the price of the amplifier. I also think your going to want more power than what the PV1500 puts out. you might want to look at the Yamaha P7000S. If you go with subs, try to find one that uses a pass filter in it, that way you'll be able to daisy chain your sub to your uppers without the need of a crossover. There are a lot of things to consider, take your time so you don't have to regret your purchase later. Oh yeh, you asked, so I will answer, I'm not a Behringer fan.

What is your budget for this system ?

My 1st system was a Peavy amp and speaker combo and it ROCKED
(pv1200 with(2) sp5g's)

The speakers you mention are a decent DJ speaker and would be similiar to the Behringers.

It would be easier to make suggestions if we knew what you wanted to spend for such a set up.... If money is not a factor I like the Yamahas S115V or the new Peavey SP5G. With these you might need to use the PV2600 AMP or similar power rated amp. There is nothing like the feel of a properly powered sub-woofer kicking out bass,,,but you need to think of expense and set up time and hauiling the extra equipment. PERSONALLY I nevered used a sub in a DJ or Karaoke set-up.
UNLESS you plan to do club DJ work ..I say TRY a set of well powered 15" speakers first ..YOU CAN ALWAYS ADD A SUB LATER

Peavey speakers are good but very power hungry. The speaker amp combo in set up 1 is close, but would step up to an amp that could push at least 400 (500 would be even better) watts per channel into 8 ohm speakers. That amp pushes 300 watts, close, would make alot of sound and get loud, just not as efficiently as it could, pl;us the speakers SPL is lower than some others in a slightly higher price range meaning it won't sound as loud as other speakers with the same volume level. Also like stated that speaker is more of an entry level dj speaker but will work for karaoke.
For a little more per speaker the Yamaha or EV will be a better setup and more than likely you wouldn't need a sub.

match either one with a good amp that pushes 500 watts per channel into 8 ohms & again you more than likely will not even need a sub for kickin bass, but could always add one later.

Well if you are going to do something try to do it right the first time. It may cost a little more than you planned (not by much) but will be worth it in the long run plus you will end up with a much better setup.

Nothing I can disagree with above.

I’ll just add that I’ve heard good things about the new Behringer “Pro” line of speakers, and recently heard them myself being DJed at a wedding. Sounded pretty good.

Only if the budget is pretty tight would I consider it, though.

As for the power amp, I personally wouldn’t shy away from the Behringer EP1500 or EP2500 amp, but that’s just this guy’s opinion. I’ve had great success with mine, and can’t seem to even find haters who can show any evidence that they’re undependable. They’ve even been tested and shown to provide over the claimed output.

Well, enough about that.

The PV Subs are pretty good if your budget is tight; they may need EQed a bit when combined with superior Mains, but they pound pretty good.

As for dual 15” tops, I’ve never heard an experience person have a good thing to say about them. Besides the muddy sound, they’re heavy and awkward, don’t sit at the right height on the floor on a stand. Single-15” tops would be better, then, as mentioned, add subs later if desired.

I've used dual 15" tops sitting on top of dual 18" subs. If they are crossed over & powered correctly they are fine - I wouldn't use them in a typical karaoke situation, but this was a auditorium setting where there was an elevated stage that placed the speakers over the audience. Most of these duals can't be used on stands which leaves them stuck on the floor. This is where they start to sound muddy as all the highs are aiming right into the heart of the crowds.

Yeah, I may have misspoke. Higher-end speakers are a different matter…

I was just thinking in the context of what we were dealing with. These lower-end jobs simply add more mids, and the horns can’t keep up sometimes.

Yeah, I use dual 15" tops for weddings and parties and they sound amazing. 'Course I pop them on top of 18" subs to get them off the floor.

I saw on a website once where someone used short pieces of trussing with plates mounted on top to support dual 15" tops. They also put accent lighting inside the trussing to highlight the speakers. Looked very classy, and is something I hope to adopt at some point.

regarding the Behringer Pro Line , I agree with you that they are decnet sounding speakers. I've been using (2) B1520 for a few months now. For the money you can't go wrong and won't be dissapointed. Apple to Apples and if money wasn't a major concern . I would still opt for the Yamahs Sv115 or the Peavy SP5.

One thing I like about the Behringer is you can #1 Stack them and #2 daisy chain them ..You CAN"T do that with the less expensive Yamaha BR's or the Peavey

This has got to be the best forum on the net! I really appreciate the input on this. I think the best advice comes from people that have had experience in this field. THANK YOU ALL. I am looking to purchase by mid September so I have some time to research even more.
