Well I got into a last minute gig for a band boosters, some 2-1/2hrs away from home. I reluctantly took the gig, even though it put stress on being to the normal job the next morning, being this was a Tuesday night. It was a karaoke party for a group of 15-18yr old kids. I must say, I was a little nervous about it from the inception. There was a few minor issues, right after set up...I didn't do a good job and was rushed into setting up. The layout was a bad idea, so I had to shut down for 10min with the group waiting to enjoy their few minutes of fame. I made the adjustments and got it back up and running, seemed like an eternity though. What really amazed me wat the intensity and the participation of the group. Everyone wan't to sing and everyone just had a great time doing it. I was initially worried that it would go over like a lead balloon. It was a very humbling expierence, so much that I wasn't entirely ready for the onslaught of the group that all wanted something, right now! I took my 13yr old daughter with me and boy I'm glad that I did. I couldn't have done it without her help. She did much of the little things and had a good time doing it. I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome. Karaoke is alive and well....MrD That is something else I can add....the "majority" of the songs were from their parents and grandparents generation, not from their own. There was maybe 3 songs from the last couple of years, the rest were from 15 plus years ago! |

there is a new generation and I have done many teen birthday parties. They grew up with a karaoke machine are very polite and not hard core when am I up next drunks. Most are very good and do not have stage jitters. I would much rather do a teen party than bar gig.And surprisingly they sing the songs that their parents and grandparents played. |

I did a Lunch hour show at a highschool as a favor for a teacher friend. A lot of good singers in the crowd and I think they had a great time... High School kids can be worse than drunks for being disorganized though especially if it is the last day of school.... I was a bit shocked and somewhat disappointed that when one of the teachers sang a great rendition of Diana Ross's "aint no mountain high enough" and NONE of the students knew about the song or apprently even the singer. "Thats great who is that???" was a common comment... Fortunately I am pretty well stocked with newer songs. Recently one of my regulars brought her kids to a early (7pm start) show and they did incredibly well considering they were 13 and 14.... Not only that the 14 year old did the REM song End of the World As We Know it... He did it very well and I have seen many adults blow that one since it is so fast paced... |

The Joy of singing (and dancing) is and has always been part of the Human condition, as we all know. As long as people keep making people, Karaoke will never die! |

I am always surprised how the 20 something group tends to sing older songs. I think many of them are easier songs to sing than some of the newer over produced songs. How these kids are so familiar with some of these songs boggles the mind. Guitar Hero certainly has brought back a lot of the oldies but goodies. |

I run a monthly gig at the Whitewater State park (Indiana). We get *tons* of young teens, and most are not shy at all. Now if we could get them to sing something besides Taylor Swift, Hannah Montana, and High School Musical it would be even better. |
