Do any of you have insurance? If so, how much and with whom. I just got a very well paying gig but the client is asking for at least 10 million dollar insurance. I guess that is how much her event cost or something. I am just curious as to what everyone else is carrying.

That is the most ridiculous request I have ever heard of. Normally most hotels and wedding event promoters require a maximum of 300,000 in liability coverage and ask for you to provide a certificate of insurance with them listed as the additional insured on it. You can get that from your insurance agent. I have my coverage as a rider on my homeowners policy for my business. State Farm offers this for a very reasonable cost. You may want to check with your Agent to see if something similar is available.

10 million ARE THEY OUT OF THEIR MINDS?

To be honest if this is the amount of coverage needed (better check for sure) I would build the cost of the insurance in your bid to do the gig. Otherwise I would probably opt out altogether.

I'm thinking the amount should be far lower. What possible accident could happen at a gig that would require such large liability limits?

Is this just for Karaoke?

Flipper's right....$10 million is a ridiculous amount of insurance. Perhaps they're 'feeling you out' to see if you're legit, or have serious liability issues and want YOU to pay for their coverage.........? What is this for anyways?

I have been using Burlington Insurance for 9 years now. It is a $1 million dollar- ($2 million dollar aggregate) policy that has covered all of my hotel contracts as 'added insured' and every private or corporate gig i've performed. This type of policy costs me $1,041.25 a year without terrorism coverage.

For a few years i went through ADJA to get moonbounce-inflatable insurance and that ran me $4,000 per year running 10 inflatables, concessions, 2 dunk tank, rock wall, and covering my large outdoor events extensively. 5 years of 'inflating costs' on the inflatables (went to $7k per year) and i sold them/discontinued them and starting subcontracting other companies for those services...WAY too expensive..and my BACK was giving out. Burlington Insurance covers the concessions and all my contractors when they sign my sub-contracts.

I moved to hawaii to 'semi-retire' from the large corporate entertainment business. Many years of it left me burnt out. I still run my business from the island and have several employees that keep it running on the mainland. I keep myself entertained by hosting karaoke shows a few times a week in hawaii. no stress.

Yes, and you must have insurance before you can drink in a bar, or eat in a resteraunt... .....in case you hurt someone, or ruin someone's suit by spilling a gin & tonic on it..... ...can I get a witness...

The National Association of Mobile Entertainers offers insurance to its members for a couple of hundred bucks a year. More info.

I'd like to hear if they've ever paid out a claim. It's not going to get a large venue off the hook. Are they based in the UK?....looks like easy money to me.....just my opinion...... :)

It must be different in the US. I have never heard of an entertainer or even the person renting a hall or hotel, etc needing to buy insurance, at least in Canada.

Yeah Tim it's sad that they must drag the DJ and other businesses into the act. Large hotel chains are the ones that require it. Many of the professional Wedding Event Planners and their Facilities require it these days. Not sure if their insurance requires it or they are trying to cover their back side.

I'm sure it is common in Canada too, maybe not in your area but in cities like Toronto where the population is dense you tend get you highest concentration of lawyers which naturally promote such things.

It's not a bad idea to have insurance with reasonable reasonable liability limits.
