First, hello to all, I'm a real N00B regarding karaoke.

The wife would like karaoke on our Home Theater setup. Currently she is using the "American Idol Encore" kit for the Xbox 360 as a karaoke machine. ROTF !!

I would like to use a PC I currently have as a karaoke player/storage device. Nothing special, AMD dual core setup, WinXP Pro SP2, current use is to just surf the web and play DVD movies on the BIG screen (see more below).

I'm thinking all I need is a mixer/mics, karaoke software to run and somethng to rip (Power CD+G Burner ?). Is there any good donation ware for ripping and a karaoke player for the PC ?

Would like to pass it through my Onkyo TX-NR905 (AVR receiver) which sends HDMI siginal to a 52" Philips LCD HDTV. From PC > Mixer > Onkyo ?

This is all an assumption as I know very little regarding karaoke, learning by the minute. Will probably be posting more questions as they arrise.

THX in advance for any recommendation/assistance !!!

your post would probably be best addressed in the tech forum...I can tell you however, that they will advise you not to use your home theatre system as it is not designed for live vocals. you would be best to purchase a small pa system for that purpose instead of putting your home theatre speakers at risk of damage.
as to the ripping audiograbber is a free ripper with the capacity to rip cdgs to any one of three or four different options...bin files (to burn to disc) wav + g, compressed + g and one other that elludes me at present.
You may wish to download audacity which is a free record and edit prog. If your wife is that keen, that would be the next step in the process, then she can keep a record of her improvement as she progresses.
As far as the more technical side of things, I will leave you to the experts :) good luck and welcome
