As long as everything goes well I'll be stopping into Costco after my son's baseball practice tonight and getting my new laptop! I'm so excited, I'll be able to download all the demo software and actually make use of the great advice you wonderful people have given me. The best thing is, I start vacation after Friday! Now that's timing!
Thanks for everyone's help,
Ken

Nice.
Remember get rid of whatever lame (@$%!) 30 day antivirus trial they install, and get a decent free one (download on another pc - don't let the laptop near the web before it's protected).
PERSONALLY: I recommend Avira Antivir Personal, it's free and works well.

From what I've seen, not bad for $1250 after the coupon that breaks today. Ken

Also - seeing as it's quite a large laptop - is it to be used mainly on a desk?
If so - remove battery and use it on power. Saves battery life.

I agree with this. I don't know if you ever hauled around a 17" laptop, it will wear on you. I now have a 15" and walking around all day at a convention with it will tax my shoulders. Make sure you have a good backpack type bag to carry it so it distributes weight on both shoulders, not just one. You will notice the difference.

Well I got it and so far so good! All the darn Windoze updates completed and I downloaded Audiograbber last night before I got tired. I still need to go to Fry's and get a box for the 320G hd from my dead computer so I can start ripping my music cd's to it. I'll be installing my wireless router tonight that I just picked up and also downloading both CompuHost and Hoster to try out. Busy busy busy...... I haven't been this excited about using a darn computer in a long time.
Is it true that you will save batter life if you take it out of the laptop for extended home use? I'm not real concerned about the weight as most of the time it will be a replacement for my desktop and a hoster for my karaoke system at home. I've got a 15.4 that I use for work so really the only time I might take this somewhere is for a gig somewhere or when we go on trips.
Thanks,
Ken

Tried that and it only fixed twenty things and then asked me to buy the program to fix the rest. What did I do wrong.

LMMFAO...I was about to pack it in tonight and head home, when I figured I would check out the latest post first (didn't want to miss out on some new high tech info here) so glad I did, thats hilarious JD. You made my night, I will laugh every time I think about it tonight during my commute. Do you think the girls will like me better now? Ron
I bet you could do wonders for Ollie too !

No idea why - I am using Avira AntiVir Personal, and it nags about once a week saying there is a "pro" version, but it's not "in your face".
Also, yes. If on a desk - remove the batt and work purely off AC.
