At least one of my fav spots is going to be open for Karaoke tonight in my area even though we are expecting 65-85 mph and higher winds and a whole lot of rain. The worst is expected around sun rise even though I doubt I'll see any part of that sun before about Tuesday or Wednesday. We're all tied and hunkered down in my area here just north of Hoston on Hwy 59N so I might as well go sing some Karaoke in Porter to take my mind off of the coming storn. Heh, I may just end up sleeping on the floor of the bar if it gets too bad before closing time. Anyone else around here affected by Ike?

Your karaoke spot generator powered? If not ya may want to take a guitar along.

I have family in Galveston, Bacliff, Pasadena, and Mont Belvieu... they are supposed to be calling to let us know what's up by the end of the day, but with their location I'm sure they are already packed up and on the road headed north or west. They had been packed and ready to leave for the LAST one...but then it moved towards La.

Tornadoes.... Hurricanes.... I couldn't put up with that. The most we deal with out here is ice and snow storms on occasion.

That being said.... be careful. You never know how bad it can actually get. Flood waters in Texas can rise very fast, if memory serves me right.

Yes the bar is generator powered if need be. There are a lot of large bars in the area and they may end up being the only one open for biz tonight. They are usually very competitive and try to have what their competetion doesn't have.

I'm very familiar with high water. I survived Hurricane Carla in the early sixties and Hurricane Alicia in '83, TD Allison in 2001 where we took on three to four feet of water in the house and a lot of lesser known hurricanes and storms over the years. I'm sure the nickname of the 'Bayou City' describes Houston in more ways than one.

If it wasn't for Karaoke tonight I might go stir crazy worrying about the coming storm. It's a whopper for sure but I think I'll be safe. The worst isn't expected until about sunrise and I hope to be back home by then.

I have people in the Golden Triangle and they are riding Ike out at my mom's house in Beaumont  . I'm stressed and worried. I hope all you guys make out ok! I have lived in Tennessee for more than 20 years but Texas will always be home. So my heart goes out to all you guys tonight.

Beaumont for the most part should be spared the most destructive parts of this storm. They'll get some tropical storm wind and a good bit of rain. The track as of this moment is straight into and over Galveston up through the very center of Houston up to Palestine and exiting Texas out by way of Paris (Tx/OK border) and will start hooking right somewhere along there according to news reports I'm hearing on the local news this eveninhg.

My place is in the direct path about 50 miles north of downtown Houston, but hopefully the winds will barely be hurricane strength and quite possible just below that. Projections as of this hour are 60-75 MPH by the time it reaches me. We had 80-85 MPH winds with Rita. I'm all tied down and about as ready as one can get. Cheers.

Made it back finally. I stayed in Houston with my bro and his place didn't suffer even a scratch. My place on the other hand looks like a war zone in Iraq. Lost close to twenty trees, some two and a half to three feet in diameter and well over a hundred years old. One two footer landed right in the middle across my roof and punched several large holes in it. Hello new roof.

Other than that my electric power is out and am told it could take maybe as long as a month to get it restored. My water is at half pressure. No natural gas. Land line phone still is working. In any event I'm on a generator that I finished hooking up about 45 minutes ago. It's good to be back even if only intermittently for about the next month. I hope that gasoline costs doesn't bankrupt me before then. Oh, and waited in line for gas for 5 hours yesterday. Today was still pretty close to that even with a few more stations open and doing business on generators.

At least the weather is finally cooperating. Mid 80's during the day and upper 50's to lower 60's at night. Next week it is supposed to start getting warm again. I hope not, no A/C on this generator. Anyway that is my report on the big blow in Montgomery County Texas. I still haven't turned on the TV to see how bad our part of the country got slammed but I am told it will be in the mega $Billions.

Pretty windy and wet stuff. Old Ike even put a damper way up here. My car show had only 30 cars whose drivers braved the rain. Even Chicago got some flooding.
