Some enjoy a beer or cocktail while working, others stick with soda and bottled water. I bring a huge 64 oz. thermal mug to my shows that I have the bar fill with Diet Coke before I start. That way it lasts me all night and I don't have to divert the attention of the bar staff from serving paying customers. I have no problem having an alcoholic beverage when a patron occasionally buys me one, although as has been said in a previous thread it's not exactly legal. OK, No flaming, no judgments! What's your favorite beverage to wet your whistle with during a show? |

I always arrive 15-25 minutes early (equipment is already in place- just have to turn on, hook up mics and start some music) I will have 1 beer while I am doing the above and then switch to diet coke for the duration of the evening. |

Diet A&W (which they get specially for me) and then water. I never drink alcohol any more, so I am pretty sharp all night. I notice that some hosts attention to detail can deteriorate as the evening goes on and the number of beers mount. |

I'm one of the offenders.....I enjoy a few cocktails (usually bud light) while hosting for the first 1/2 of the show..then 2nd half is soda or water (that's pepsi, coke or tap). I will almost always get a burger and fries or share a pizza with some of my friends from the place of business before the show. MrD |

Water with lemon, very little or no ice (cold is no good for the vocal chords). Boring? Maybe, but it keeps you hydrated and in smoky bars that's always a good thing. Keeping a clear head is always a good thing too |

I didn't often drink alcohol during my shows... usually diet coke or something similar. But occassionally I'd have a beer or a jaegermeister shot... depended on what was going on, the people I was hanging with... etc. I will say in the last few years that the Energy Drinks on the market (and many that aren't on the martker) make some great mixers with alcohol. I just purchased a home soda maker, and the Energy Drink mix you make per liter is excellent.... AND a great drink to mix with shots! |

I'll keep a bottle of water handy...and even then sometimes forget to drink it. Hate to have to deal with a full bladder. |

Jack Daniels & Coke for me and plenty of it Ok only in one of the pubs I do that, but its my local & they're all my friends and they respect my equipment if not my ears! I'm on the water front. I also have to set up and drive home with my equipment. Plus I don't want to take the risk of getting a DUI. That would cost me my job. Occasionally I have a beer in between, only if it is bought for me to support the register. But even than, only Lite beer and never more than two throughout the night. |

water for me, but I have taken to taking a hip flask with a mix of straight rum and ginger wine. the stones green ginger wine is what the duck shooters take with them in season...its said to be just the thing for those cold early mornings. I find it just takes the bite off the rum and adds a little sweetness. I gargle the sticky mix half way thru the show then sip on it if I am wanting to loosen my vox up (and my inhibitions I guess) to do some cocker or metallica or anything else that takes less finnesse and more balls |

I'm still confused about the statement that accepting an alcoholic drink might not be legal. How could that be? |

There was some mention in another thread that it’s illegal for employees to drink alcohol, and that a DJ/KJ falls under the definition of employee. I guess that would make me a criminal. |

Morgan: You actually bring liquor INTO a bar? That is extemely illegal here (Colorado). In fact, one of my regulars recently got 86'd from the bar for doing just that. Not that anyone would know if it was in a soda bottle or something, but certainly a flask would be a red flag. I usually have water, Dr. Pepper, or Coke (hate coffee). Occasionally a beer. I don't have to worry about the vocal chords, because I very rarely sing at my shows. |
