I have been using a Yamaha Stagepass 300 for my home system for three years now. It fits in my car for partys and in small to medium size rooms it sounds really great. They have a new Stagepass 500 that has more power but is larger and heavier. I have not heard the 500 version. I bought the carrying case Yamaha sells for it and some nice tripod speaker stands ( speaker stands require adapter but the speakers have threaded scew holes for the adapter). I completed my setup with a cdg player with key control, a pair of Shure SM58 mics, a tv stand ordered over the internet and a 13" tv from wally world. We have a ball with it.

hey JIm your setup sounds ideal for what you do :) a friend of mine is looking to purchase something for her daughter (school girl who is getting asked to sing at retirement homes etc) so I might just do some research on that

Thanks , Morgan, I was posting this a a reply to coolbreezes questions about a home system and posted it new by mistake. I spent a lot of time looking for just the right PA for my particular needs before I bought it. Those needs included having the guy at the music store let me see if the carring case would fit in my trunk. It did fit but just barely. Gas was less than it is now but I knew I did not want to get a bigger vehicle and my wife hates to ride in my old truck. I have posted about it before and some people have picked about its lack of mid control on the mixing amp and others have picked about its cost or lack power etc. I really like mine and can't understand why it is not recommended more as a small PA system. It is designed to be small and portable and sounds great to me. In the store I compared it to the portable Fender system and to one by Kustom. I thought the Yamaha sounded the best. It has two 8" speakers and a 150 watt per channel mixing amp that detaches from the back of one of the speakers. The speaker that does not hold the mixing amp has a storage compartment for your cords etc. I have never done any proffessional shows just private parties with friends and family. Most of the time it stays set up and ready in our dining room which is open to the living room and kitchen all together about a 32'x30' space.
