Sort of getting tired of hauling stuff around and paying $30/month for storage. Just made a deal with my sat gig They will store my system which is fully covered with their insurance. They can hire the pope as long as he doesnt abuse my system. Now I can get drunk and enjoy my system Part of the deal was they will provide a taxi ride home once a month. EDIT This is small town america where a man's word is good as gold so dont give me that crap about mistrust .. |

It's fun to actually be able to go to karaoke once in a while instead of being the host. I was able to do that a few months ago. I hired a gal to be able to fill in for me when I needed a night off and was able to stop in later. I had a blast while still making money. It felt to good to be true. |

Except for the computer I've left my stuff in the club for years with no bad luck. The only thing stolen was a long time ago... a guitar player in the band left his prized Les Paul onstage because we were going to rehearse first thing next morning. There was an exit that was blind to the bar close to the stage, and sure enough, the Les Paul was gone when we returned. Tuck the small stuff out of reach and you should be fine. |

Yup! When I started my Car Cruise Nites, my first customer let me store the rig in a locked closet. Never had a problem. I was even able to keep it there over winter. |

An erstwhile member of this forum had the approach I kind of fancy -- buy a pair of low-cost powered speakers (Tapco Thump or B215A) and permanently mount them in a gig. Then the host just has to bring a couple of mics and an eq in a small rack, a mixer, and a laptop. No amp rack, speaker stands, or speakers to haul, requires minimal setup. Sound quality if well-EQed is going to be above average for our area. |

The biggest problem with leaving your gear at a venue is God forbid, that a distress warrant is placed on it by creditors. Once that happens, in most jurisdictions, everything belongs to the creditors, including your gear. Whether you get it back or not will depend on their generosity. |

As far as only needing a ride "once a month" ,don't know if you could hang with me ! |

Well tonights the first night ever I wont have to haul my system in, setup or teardown. Actually the room we do karaoke in is only open for bands Fri and us Sat nights. Everybody is happy. There is not many bar owners that I would make this arrangement with which I told them when we were discussing it. They did trell me they want me in occasionally and make sure the sound quality does not deteriate. Nine years ago I was homeless and didnt have a pot to pee in so this was not an easy decision... |

I think youve got a great deal going. I had a system in one bar for a couple months early this year. It went ok. Every other thursday we pull our laptop and thats all as we also do friday. I had a set of speakers that I left in the back room at the same bar for 3 months since its a basement and I don't like to lug them up and down steps. There are still people you can trust in the bar biz, But always keep tabs on your gear. |

But if indeed you live in a small town and this guy is a long time friend, you might be OK. Just prepare yourself for the fact that if his place gets broken into and your stuff gets stolen, you in all likelihood are NOT covered by his insurance. If you want to confirm that, get a "rider" from his insurance company naming you as "additional insured" and scheduling your specific gear. Good luck! |
