Post subject: | DJ to Laptop KJ Mic Mixer & Video Splitter??? |
I already have a sound system with a DJ mixer (4 lines + 2 mic channels) and a laptop. All lines are being used on the DJ mixer. I am going from CDs to a laptop. I was using a 3 drawer player that has 3 mic inputs with echo as well. I am going to need a mic mixer that has at least 3 inputs with echo. I will plug this mixer into my mic input on my DJ mixer. I want the mic mixer to be of good quality (i.e. quiet). Please recommend one? The next thing I will need is a video splitter. I have VGA out on the laptop. I would like a splitter that not only splits the VGA to 2 or more VGA outputs but also has a composite output or 2. I usually have a monitor for my singers and another for the audience. Please recommend a video splitter and if it should be an amplified splitter? I currently use 2 TVs but am planning on buying two LCDs. Thanks in advance |

Well for the first question you want a real "live" type mixer, not plugging into a player at all. Run both the mics & player into that mixer - then the output of the mixer into your dj mixer (although if it's just karaoke i'd bypass the dj mixer entirely). Make sure the mixer has some kind of built in digital effects. Check into the Yamaha small boards. As for the second question, others will be better to answer, I do not use the VGA out from my computer, just a the S-Video run to an RF converter then split the signal with coax to all the tv's in the bar. |

and there are other alternatives for going S-video out. I use an S-video to RCA connector, and go straight to a tv monitor. MOST TV's have the RCA connections. (I do keep a converter handy in case I have to hook up to an older tv though). The mic inputs on players I think is the worst tragedy in the karaoke world. A venue I first started out in used to do that, and had the mic adjustments with a separate mic mixer. Talk about FEEDBACK issues, and just pi## poor quality sound. Trust Lonman on his recommendation for a regular mixer with Mic input samples, either for home or pro. Ignore the mic inputs on a karaoke player! Best of luck to ya! |

Using the VGA output will limit you to a recommended 15 feet run from the computer to the tv. You can buy a VGA to s-video converter. Connect the s-video to a RF-modualator (Walmart for $18.00) then connect as many tv's as you want with coax cable (Walmart carries 25 and 50 foot lengths), and splitters. The RF-modulator amplifies the signal. For very long runs and large numbers of tv's you may need a RF amplifier. |
