Hi everyone! My name is Jackie and I am new to the forum. I've tried looking this up but was unable to find exactly what I'm looking for. Anyway, my system consists of 2 powered JBL EON 15 mains, the EON sub, and 10'' EON monitor. The mixer is a Peavey PV-10, and I run my show from my laptop. The music is stored on an external hard drive. Normally I run my sound straight from the laptop's on board sound card to the mixer. However, if I am wanting to record my singers live, how would I go about hooking up everything to make that possible. I do also have an external sound card to use in this process if needed. (A Sound Blaster usb card.)

Also when it comes to the recording process, the mixer does have usb capabilities....if you are running Windows XP. My laptop runs Windows Vista. :(

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much!! :D

It would be a whole lot easier just to get a 2nd laptop for your recorder. Instead of bouncing between a couple of programs & possibly running into a feedback loop if you connect it up wrong, run you main computer as you normally would, take the 2nd & run the tape/record out from the mixer to the 2nd laptop. As for software, Audacity works prefect for this & it's free!
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

Then you can take it home & cut out any dead air from the beginning & end of each song, maybe do a fade out, normalize all the levels - which all these features are include & very simple to use!. Then you just save each song.

That makes sense. Feedback and noise was one of my main concerns. I also have another laptop I can use. Do you think the use of the external sound card would make a difference?

It would most likely be better than anything built in. Try them both & see which one yields a better sound.
