Post subject:  Serious Help

OK here is the deal no laughs or arguments. This is a stage which some here might -plan for. In Feb I will be 69. For the first time Sat I will walk in as a customer and not be the boss of my system. For the first time ever I can drink and l enjoy my system as a customer. Let me preface this by saying 8-9 years ago I was homeless. I worked my (@$%&#!) off and now have one of the better systems and hired the best host I have ever known

Sat I will take a bus down to to the shopping center with office depot and walk down about 6 blocks (taxi home no DUI). . Here Is Where I need Help.. I am working on a speech to give to my host. it will go something like this.

You are my representative. Like tonight I am but a customer. You are the boss. I make no decisions unless it pertains to the future. No I am not in here to fix the system.. I leave all decisions up to you but expect you to stay sober. The main priority is I don t walk out of here and drive. If I get a DUI wed can kiss this goodbye. I love you

I know lonnie and others hire hosts but give me some input!!! Maybe I am making too much out of it but it is unknown territory.. What trusts and leeway do I give?

Ollide

I don't know as if it were me, if I would even give a speech. I might walk in an give a thumbs up and just see what happens. I would imagine you already trust this person or they wouldn't be running it for you.

Whatever you do, give the KJ a break the first night by not singing My Way.

Hope you enjoy the other side!

I have hired (and fired) hosts. The main thing is that they understand that they have to run things the way you want them to (e.g. rotations, mixing, etc.). Also that they need to STAY SOBER.

I had to fire one host because he thought that if I wasn't there to supervise, he could just get drunk.

Don't be afraid to keep making suggestions to your host, if you feel something isn't quite right. As long as the host knows he or she is working for YOU, and is representing YOU (not the bar, not themselves), you should be OK.

On the rare occasions when I'm at a show that my host is doing, I still get customers coming up and asking me questions, handing me slips, etc. I just tell them that I'm just a customer that night, and the host can take care of them.

One other thing- let your host get used to solving problems without your help, if you can. The more they know, the better host they will be.

Good luck to you, and enjoy your time as a customer! :D

Actually, the shows I run are in Englewood - Hampden & Santa Fe, and Littleton - Ken Caryl & Simms. I do have a show run by my host in Lakewood, but not on Colfax. I don't think I would ever do any shows on Colfax :vomit:

Hampden & SantaFe? Please do tell.. time, location? Curious to catch a show... Unfortunatly Greely is a bit far from me, in Castle Rock.

I do shows at Blondie's Firehouse, 3435 S. Inca (the Englewood Civic Center, right underneath Bally's) on Thurs. and Sat. nights. My other host is there on Sun. night.

Come check it out!

ollie you will be on tenderhooks no doubt...but I wouldnt give a speech...I would wish him/her luck and say that short of a major problem you will not interfere unless asked. Then have a debrief either at the end of the show or the next day. and allow time for their thoughts as well as yours :) huggggs

If he's the best host you've ever known, he obviously knows what he's doing. If I were him, I'd be insulted that you felt you had to tell me not to get drunk while I'm working. I know that it's not like a normal job and that drinking goes with the territory for a lot of KJs, but that should have been addressed when you hired him, not when he's about to start his first show for you.

I wouldn't give a speach either. I realize you want to be just another patron when you are there, but actually you are not. You own the system and are being paid as an owner. You have every right to correct something you see that you don't like. Chances are this won't happen because this guy knows his stuff, but I would leave the door open to do so. I'm sure if he needed help with an equipment failure you would help. Why wouldn't you? You are the owner of this business.

No speeches necessary, just sit at the table cleaning your revolver.
