I have a set of wireless mics that run in the 180-280 Mhz range. Can I run a second set of cordless mics that work in that freq range, or am I forced to go to a UHF system for set number two.

The second set would be from a different manufacturer, if that makes a difference.

You can run another one, but you'll need to find exactly where that one you already have is, and then you can get another VHF as long as it's not on the same freq. It's the same principle as a dual or multiple mic system runs, except you'll have your receivers in separate boxes.

There SHOULD be a little sticker on your reciever somewhere that tells the frequency.
