Never in my wildest dreams, did I think I would ever be sitting here watching the wall street numbers, and listening to the commentators. Either I'm geezing, or getting worried..........

I'm of the belief that one way to give a shot of reassurance to the stock market overall and especially the non-professional investor would be to see some of the Wall Street fat cat upper echelon buffoons who stole from their companies and stockholders by hook or crook of the failed institutions being 'duck walked' in orange jumpsuits and handcuffs and leg shackles to and from court in front of television cameras for a few days.

The investor, professional and private alike are scared to get back in just yet because they are scared to lose any more of their money and they don't visibly see that the Justice Department is doing anything to investigate and punish crooked fat cat CEO types like they did with Enron and Andersen Bookkeeping services and etc.. They have some serious and valid concerns regarding trust right about now after seeing a large portion of their retirement funds gone right before their eyes, gone because they trusted many of these low life greedy thieves masquerading as Big Business CEO's.

Get some indictments ASAP and parade them in front of the TV cameras and then hope the media will put aside their extremely partisan politics and show them on the evening news. This won't solve the overall problem but it sure would be a big help in the interim. The American people must be reassured that people, lots of people are going to be held accountable for causing or at least contributing to the financial failures we are all witnessing.

I just got my recent college grad brother into the market through an IRA invested in mutual funds last year so he can do some retirement planning earlier than me. Right now he is only putting about $25 a month away so there isn't a whole lot in there. I gotta laugh at him watching. He only has a few hundred dollars in and he is totally freaking out. "I'm losing all my money." I told him that he is 23 and he isn't going to retire any time soon so he needs to wait it out. If he was closer to retirement age....like in a year or two....then maybe he needs to worry. But, if the market crashes, the economy crashes, and this country crashes. It will bounce back as it always does, and if it doesn't, then you probably have bigger problems to worry about than just your money. Either way, I told him I'd flip him the few hundred he lost if my advice doesn't work, and offered him to wager the gains if it does....but somehow, he doesn't want to. I'm young and I'm gonna buy up as much as I can while it is down. I did that after the 9/11 crash and all of the shares I bought in the teens and early twenties were in the forties and fifties a few months ago. Yes, they are down now, but even though the market is down, the US companies still seem to be making money. I'm confident that this is just a bump in the road.

Hope your'e right Doc Bob on the bounceback....I guess I will be watching the market again in the morning as it should be interesting (actually, is it open for the holiday?I don't know, never watched before)
In any event, I would like to see the guilty pay for all this. Problem is, that line is long, and many of our elected leaders should be in the front of the firing squad, not the 2nd, or 3rd row. I'm talking about the the ones that has spent this country into oblivian year, after year. The pork barrel spending, deceptive accounting practices, robbing of our SS fund, the list goes on, and on. They surely set a good example for the private sector, who the hell are they to judge anyone.
Anyway, I'm done with this for now, I think my blood pressure is going up again. In a few hours I'll be on my boat having a cold one, and forgetting about the whole mess.
That is funny about him panicking over a few hundred bucks, good thing he didn't have any real money invested, he might jump out of a building or something, lol.

Mutual funds should prove to be reasonablely safe in the long haul. They yield smaller and thus experience smaller disruptions and losses. But you are right that if the whole economy really does tank then we all will have bigger things to worry about.

I've personally been investing more in raising my own crops and obtaining the materials I will need to survive in a really down economy and oh, I've also been taking care of my means for personal safety as well, to guard against those who will surely seek to relieve me of my hard worked for goods when they chose to ignore the abunant warning signs.

Funny that you mention sales being up. I think it was Faux News where I saw a news item on gun and ammunition sales since the downturn (hell, a crash by any other name). The report said that gun, handguns especially as well as rifles and shotguns to lesser degrees were up anywhere from 30% to 70% on average depending on locale. In some cases the percentage was closer to 100%.

I can't blame them one darn bit. Maybe these folks will use them to defend themselves from the slackers or lazy types who refused to heed the warning signs and thus prepared themselves. And then maybe the slackers will try to use them to take from the wise and prepared doers and savers, heh heh. I know I'll be waiting for them with a welcome they won't be expecting. That old guerrilla warfare training I received in the Nam and the first hand experience I obtained as a result just might come in handy once again. I ruly hope not but I am prepared just in case.

What a shame that some of us old warriors from bygone wars and newly minted home grown patriotic warriors might have to take up arms on our own soil to protect ourselves should our government or economy fail. And then maybe some of these folks have other ideas or intentions if the government does indeed totally collapse as the old wild wild west ways will take hold in the vacuum that would likely be created in either of those events.
