Post subject:  Need recommendation for karaoke mixer

Hi every one,

I am looking a decent good sound karaoke mixer. I already had the karaoke/DVD player and would like to hook up into my existing 200w/channel amplifier.

It is for home use only and I don't think I need the pro DJ mixer, any suggestion???
Thanks

Recommend staying away from anything with "DJ mixer" or "karaoke mixer" in the name for vocals. They are generally very poor sound quality. If you get at all serious about things, you will immediately wish you had bought a different mixer.

I recommend something like the MG82CX from Yamaha, the Alesis Multimix 8 USB, or the Behringer 1202FX. All of them have decent effects settings that will work, and reasonable microphone preamps and equalization.

I recommend two other things. Getting a decent microphone (Behringer XM8500 on the low end, Shure SM-58 on the high(er) end). And not using your "home theater" speakers but buying some MTX TP-112 or Sonic LTX-12 speakers to put on your speaker B output. If you get enthusiastic and push your home theater speakers you could well blow them. Get something with a horn tweeter so it can stand up to vocals.

Thank you, mckyj57, for you suggestion.

I should have couple more questions that would like to follow up

"I recommend something like the MG82CX from Yamaha, the Alesis Multimix 8 USB, or the Behringer 1202FX. "

I narrow the mixer to either
1. Behringer XENYX 1202FX
- 24-bit processor with 100 sound effects
2. Yamaha MG82CX
- built-in sound processor with 16 effects
- built-in channel compressor
3. Mackie DFX6 6x2 Mixer
- 32-bit processor with 16 effects
- 5-band stereo graphic equalizer

Which one those mixers provides above of all in pre-amp and sound quality?

Which features are most needed for karaoke, sound effect? channel compressor? or graphical equalizer?

All the mixers have two main outputs, if I would like to hook up extra speakers, i.ethe Subwoofer, can I use the monitor output or split the main outputs?

"I recommend two other things. Getting a decent microphone (Behringer XM8500 on the low end, Shure SM-58 on the high(er) end). "

Mic is my next item on the list. I would love to have a recommendation on the decent wireless mic somewhere around ~200/pair, UHF or VHF, which will provide better frequency?

"And not using your "home theater" speakers but buying some MTX TP-112 or Sonic LTX-12 speakers to put on your speaker B output."

Yeah, I see this, but due to the room and configuration, speakers is last on my list.

Thanks

They are all going to be acceptable in your situation. Some people will say the Mackie, but in your environment the difference will be minimal. I would choose the Yamaha from these.

Compression. They all will have effects if that is what you mean by "sound effect". A five-band graphical equalizer is the next thing to worthless.

If you are ignoring advice and feeding it to your HT amp and speakers, it will do that for you. If you are talking about a real PA subwoofer, you aren't that far yet. 8-)

I won't recommend a cheap wireless mic. You will have to get someone else to recommend junk to you. I recommend staying wired for good mic quality without breaking the bank.

Good luck with that, you will need it.
